Hi Guys,

Was at kmart on the weekend and seen a Gas hot water system that I hadnt seen there before. Cannot remember what brand it was but with the 25% off sale on it is down from $250.00 to $186.00.
Does anyone know what they are like? does the water get hot enough for shower/washing up?
cheers

Mate,

If this is the Coleman Hot Water system then yes, easily hot enough for a shower and washing up. It doesn't quite get hot enough for a cup of coffee though this depends how hot you like your coffee. I've had one for two years without fault. Only takes about 5sec to get to max temp of around 70 degrees, give or take a second?

Hi Teabag,
no, I rang the handbrake and she said it was a gasmate, but looks similar to the coleman without the tap that swings of the side.
cheers

Teabag , a little modification that anyone can do will give the Coleman hotter water for tea / coffee , with phillips screwdriver remove the temp control knob and then remove the knob spring , simply replace the temp knob without the spring , lets the knob / valve be turned to the highest temp setting without having to hold the knob ,, the over temp function will still work but does not cut in so quickly.

Sounds like the Coleman HWS but without some of the accessories.

Most people rate them pretty highly but I don't think that the water temp gets high enough for a good hot coffee.
I don't have one as yet so no doubt some one else will fill you in.

Cheers Kev

The unit is a gasmate. Its a knock off of the coleman. If it has the same specs as the coleman then go for it. Oh remember..the coleman has a 10yr warrenty.

Doesn't even come close to a Coleman copy , No integrated gas bottle and no internal battery , so nowhere near as portable as the Coleman unit.

Had a quick look at the box - it should be called a "warm water system" as it only heats 20-40 degrees (can't recall exactly) above the incoming water temp. I guess you could recirc in a bucket but taking high country river water as a starting point would take a while!. Also no inbuilt gas and battery would be a hassle. The Coleman on special seems to be better value as the design is much more integrated.
