Currently running an ASUS A636N PDA/GPS with OziExplorer. Can access all maps ok, but when I try to run moving maps, it gives the message 'No data received from the GPS' Any ideas on why?

Morty,
check your configuration "GPS NMEA", in Ozi. Need to make sure all the baud rates etc are at the same setting.

Thanks for the help, saved me hours of frustration.
I finally got the thing to work, and you lead me to the solution.
The Comm's port had to be set to Com5 - sentence GPRMC
The program port to Com9, and the hardware port to Com 5, Baud rates to 4800.
I'm heading off-road tomorrow down to the coast to try out the topo maps.
Thanks again.

Have a look at the Oziexplorer configuration, could possibly be something not set correctly.

Hi Morty,
You also need to set your GPS to send Nmea. This is usually done in the config or interface parts of your GPS.
Cheers

You can use Hyperterminal (which is included in Windows) to see if data is comin in from the GPS. Don't forget that unless your GPS is receiving satellite data non will be shown so (and I'm not trying to be patronising here) make sure the GPS is outside.
Set Hyperterminal to the baud rate that your GPS says it is working at. Select the comms port that the GPS is working through set the other bumph to none,8,1 and then watch the screen.
If you are getting lines of GPS "sentences" (NMEA data) then the GPS is OK. From there it is simply a matter of checking that the GPS settings in OziExplorer match those you set to make Hyperterminal work. (Don't forget to stop Hyperterminal before trying OziExplorer.)
4800 Baud is fast enough for most purposes so see if you can set the GPS and OziExplorer to it.
Click Start NMEA communications with GPS (under the Moving Map menu).
Under Moving Map you can also click "Show NMEA input and output" and you should see the same sentences as you did in Hyperterminal. If so, Moving Map should work.

Oops, you might not have hyperterminal in your PDA, but you should still be able to use the "show NMEA input and output" to see if the comms are working.
