Is there anyone out there that knows a lot about Office Excel , I don't , What I need to find out is how do they format the POI .csv files to set in motion the warning in the GPS,Now I have a school file I downloaded and it gives a warningfrom the point ie thats 800m it covers, I also downloaded a Low
bridge csv file and gives no warning , I can make the Garming .gpx file have a proximity but I can't find how to do a .csv , Anyone want some POIs i have been playing around with some Supercheap Auto, Schools, and added some locations , you can add your own area schools in your own downloaded file , add info to it up the top bar , do it exactly as the others are and they work fine ,
Doug

Doug
it is probably something to do with the format of the data in a column. perhaps the GPS is expecting to see numbers but excel is saving it as text - there may be an extra space in there or something. happy to have a look for you if you want to send me the files, just tell me which ones work and which ones do not so I can look for a difference. send them in .csv format as the raw files to garry.sonnberger@mincom.com
cheers

hi Doug - gadgets = garry sonnberger and the e-mail address is my work one which I monitor all day (obviously).
Car is not having a drink although it does look like it. That was my attempt to get down Gunshot on the OTL while travelling to
Cape York in 2005. It was a drop of about 1.5 - 2 metres at about 70 degrees - I was standing on the firewall.
Cheers

Doug,
Have a look at this great website ==> Site Link for info on how to do it.
An easy way is to name the file RedLight.csv or even Redlight1.csv which will produce a proximity alert on all locations in that file. The csv file is fairly simple with the following format:
Longitude, Latitude, Description, Comments
eg.
151.030263, -33.931976, "SuperCheap Auto BANKSTOWN Unit 15
Home Central 49 Chapel Road NSW (02) 9709 6500"
comments are optional BTW.
Hope this helps.

Thanks mate, I will try that later, what I have found out is that if I name a file Andrew_1 it will give it a 400m prox' but 1kph speed limit Andrew_40 makes it 400m and 40kph, Now I tried the
bridge heights speed limit is not an issue , unless it's gonna hit ..lol but I found I can name the entry like this
"Under Roe Hwy 5.4m@60" will give it a 600m proximity

Thanks for that , I am now starting to understand how this works, Still don't know why the name "Redlight" sets of an alarm but that link is really helpful, I will add to my GPS and maps web pages, The main page where you found it I already had a shortcut to it , thats the trouble , i got so much stuff here .

Since it sounds like you haven't done the Engineering quiz via email ........
================================================
STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING QUIZ.
Question
A 20 ton Hyundai Digger is on top of a flatbed trailer and heading east on Interstate 70 near Hays, Kansas. The extended shovel arm is made of high tensile steel and the approaching overpass is made of commercial-grade concrete, reinforced with 1 1/2 inch steel rebar spaced at 6 inch intervals in a crisscross pattern layered at 1 foot vertical spacing.
Solve:
When the shovel arm hits the overpass, how fast do you have to be going to slice the
bridge in half? (Assume no effect for headwind and no braking by the driver...)
Extra Credit:
Solve for the time and distance required for the entire rig to come to a complete stop after hitting the overpass at the speed calculated above.
See pics for more clues.

Actually the back hoe looks like it has come out of that fairly
well with relatively minimal damage??? (All things considered)
Wonder if its been advertised on Ebay as a one owner slightly used one?

You going to eBay the
bridge or the excavator
John? Think the value may be with the excavator. Pretty serious deceleration with the truck too. A few Gs.......

Doug - For "CSV" files I'm sure it is done in the name of the waypoint.
I have worked out how to do it for speed alerts - but not for proximity distance.
For instance - a waypoint named as "SpeedZone@30" will have an alert speed of 30.
Now - I'm sure there is a similar thing for setting proximity distance - but I haven't worked out yet what it is.
