The Water Corp (or whatever they are called now...) has released a document calling for submissions to be made before 26Feb2007. This document is the same that was conveniently unavailable and with all authorities concerned in denial that it existed a couple of months ago. The document is titled - Mundaring Weir Draft Drinking Water Source Protection Plan - and if you think it relates to just the Mundaring Shire then a huge rethink is required. The relevant pages for 4WD operators are 23, 39, 58, 59, 60, 63, 64, 65. There are also attacks on other activities so we are not alone - even having a picnic is to be outlawed. The document also attacks the local 4WD publication and wants references to the area deleted from their various books. I understand the Motor Trades Association is involving itself via a body set in place specifically for 4WD businesses and operators so maybe a call to them to see what options are available would be good. The actions of cleaning and assisting in repairing the various tracks in the area by 4WD clubs and other interest groups appears to have been to no avail with the current crop of authorities riding roughshod over any/all recreation groups. There may be a case for contacting current State Pollies but with their current attitudes of absolute arrogance that may also be a task beyond us mortals. Try and contact the publishers of our local 4WD mag and let them know you are willing to provide some support - similarly with the WA 4WD Assoc. Both of these groups, along with others, are involved with the MTA in trying to keep areas available for us to use. rgds

Been following this with interest and it doesn't look good at all. The way this has been handled by DEC, Mudaring Shire and WaterCorp would indicate collusion and dodgy tactics.

Although I feel this is a foregone conclusion, I hope we can apply some pressure. There are a number of 4x4 training organisiations who rely on the Powerlines for their livelihood and jusr as importantly, this is where many newcomers have learnt to 4x4 in a safe and controlled environment.

Have to agree. This is about the only place close to Perth that offers newbies a chance to try out their vehicles (amd themselves) without getting into too much trouble, whilst at the same time providing more adventurous options for those who like a bit more of a challenge.

A group of us regularly (usually at the last minute) have a bit of a drive thru. Convoy can include Disco, Surf, Rodeo, Rav 4, Prado, XL7 (3 days old first time it went thru!!), and one majorly work Partol Ute. All drivers able to drive to their comfort level, and be included in the drive the whole time.

Will follow Maverick's advice and get in touch with Western 4wd and others to see what can be done.

The document has been issued for comment by the Department of Water (not the Water Corporation). You can find a link to the doc (5Mb - PDF) on the DoW site.
Making a submission and contacting the local State MP may be a waste of time but there again...

Sounds a bit like the antics of the NSW Gestapo mob, anti 4x4 everything or anti recreational people places, I see all these signs too about NO dogs here, No dogs there, I don't see the difference between Dog doings and Possum or Kangaroo doings and there's a damn site lot more of them in the bush than a few pets,

Start voting for independent candidates (and make clear what you want) and get rid of that current polly filth ... the only way to start changing something ... everything else is pretty useless...

have fun
