Mine are starting to become loose a bit. Does anyone have an idea how to take up the tension again? They are just loose enough to be noticable when travelling over currugated roads.

Cheers

I have the same and haven't figured it out either. There is a screw under the mirror and there was no hope in hell of undoing mine so I just put up with it now.

To fix the problem properly you have to remove the mirror, which requires removing the door trim on the inside of the mirror, can be done at a stretch without removing all the door trim bust best to take it all off. Remove mirror and put threadlock on the screw at the base of the mirror and refit.

I did this successfully on mine.

Hows it going guys .

The first time I had this I took the mirror off to fix it.

The second time , on the other side cause I locktited the others , I used a rachet ring spanner ( 1/4" ) with screwdriver bit in it , A 1/4" drive ratchet with a 1/4" socket and bit is too big cause of the curve in the door.

Single screw holds on cover with attachment screws underneath ( from memory ) can look tomorrow if this isnt right .

G'day Glenn,

Not sure I'm getting the message - just me most likely! Can you tell me "where" the spanner goes. "how" the scredriver bit works and "what" it is adjusting. Are we talking under trhe trim? - Not the screw on the outside?

Kind regards

Screwdriver bit is just like you would use with a driver drill and could get from a hardware or auto store , I used a short #2 phillips.

Spanner is used to turn the screwdriver bit , which is 1/4" hex and fits in the end of a 1/4" ratchet ring spanner with enough sticking out to still turn a screw in a tight place.

I have seen small kits that have a mini ratchet handle and some bits .

The screw you take out is on the outside of the vehicle , it is under the part that the mirror swivels on screwed up from the bottom . There is one screw that holds the cover on and once you take it out there are 3 more screws that hold the mirror part on ( not adjustment screws , badly worded before sorry ).

When I did mine I took them out one at a time and put some loctite on them and the mirrors havent come loose again.

Hope this helps you out .

Once you have it sorted it takes about 5min a side , just make sure you use loctite and you wont have to do it again !

Dunno about GU mirrors.

My GQ however........the mirrors shook loose on the AB last year. So I stuck some cloth in behind them and also folded over a piece of rubber mat and stuck that inbetween the mirror and the shell at the top.

This works a treat and costs nothing and the electric motors strill move the mirrors where I want them.

Hows it going Willem,

Thought this was happening to me , only noticed the mirror image moveing a bit funny after cleaning the car in Darwin ( killed about an hour at car lovers ) , then realised the whole assembly was moving .

PITA to take the mirror out when you realise you can tighten it with the right tool in a couple of minuets.

Yeh it's one of those curly problem that does not seem to have a "normal" fix and I'll give it a go on a rainy day when there is nothing else to do. It is not a big issue but better to stay in front of it in the long term.

Thanks for your help
