According Carpoint the 4.2L TD is to be replace by a upgraded 3L TD.

Site Link

"This leaves the Nissan Patrol in a challenging interim position through 2007 when its replacement is still some time away. Nissan is currently running out the old 4.2-litre diesel in its wagon and cab-chassis and won't replace it after stocks run out in 2007.

Along with the current petrol engine, the 4.2 diesel accounts for less than 20 per cent of sales.

Nissan is responding to current concerns over fuel costs by allocating its resources to the 3-litre turbodiesel which already accounts for 80 per cent of Patrol sales. This engine will be upgraded early in 2007 ready for it to take over as the sole diesel option in the Patrol wagon and cab-chassis"

Is this the beginning of the end of the Patrol, remember the Rocky no new body, no new engine and died a slow death.

I would say it’s the end of the Nissan patrol as we know it Today.

The old 4.2 don’t meet current Enviro standards so that’s all she rote.

My 15 year old 4.2 has 240 000km. So I should have about another 15 years out of this engine. Doesn't bother me too much yet.

Forget the Patrol, but then again I think the new troopy will make everything else redundant anyway.

Yes we all say what a waste and what a stupid decision but all Nissan look at is "3L accounts for 80% of sales" so they couldn't give a rats about the minority....just like anyone does.

Also as someone else said doesn't (and couldn't) meet the new emmision laws...hence the death of the Toyota 1HZ.....

Speaking of engines I was reading in the SA paper (I think) last weekend about a Puegot diesel engine that is only 1.8L I think with twin turbos and puts out something like 150kw and 430NM of torque!!! With over 250Nm available from 1200rpm. I nearly fell off my chair. When I get home I'll try and find the arcticle and put up the real values. Mind blowing really.

Sorry found the article so here are the real facts:

Peugeot 407
2.2L HDi
Twin Turbo
125kw
370Nm of torque at just 1500rpm
"Peugeot claiming 200Nm of torque from just 1000rpm rising to 280 Nm by 1250rpm. Even at 3000rpm there is still 355Nm on offer"
Fuel injection pressure is up from 1350 Bar to 1800Bar.

No how brilliant does that engine sound??? Might be a different story if you whacked it in a vehicle weighing 3 tonne........

Best decision I have ever seen by a auto manufacturer.

About time they took the bull by the horns and wrestled this global warming to the ground via 3.0L engines in 4WD's.

Who needs those polluting, fuel guzzling, black smoke bellowing things anyway.

Hopefully the Govt's will legislate this as the norm and give everyone 5 years to convert or suffer a severe increase in insurance and registration for keeping such heaps of polluting c r a p on the road.

Horses for courses . Jeez.. settle down a little.. I'd like to see you tow a big trailer with your Jeep.. Why not get on your soap box and get Semi trailers banned while your at it.. they use even more fuel...
You stick to your jeep for getting around town and maybe getting the tyres dirty once in a while, I'll stick to my 4.2 when I want to go off road and have a reliable simple engine that I can fix without a laptop and dyno etc etc...not to mention it wil lpull more than just the skin off custard like so many undersized motors in Full size 4WD.. if you NEED a full size 4WD, you NEED an engine big enough to move it... the 3L is great for the townies who go get wet once in a blue moon and only use it to pul the skin off thier custard.. the 4.2 is a great old workhorse that is tried and proven and is yet to dissapoint anyone other than greenies.. I'm all for cutting down poloution where and whenever possible... but they are not pieces of CRAP, they are not being pahesed out due to being unpopluar.. they are being phased out becuase of stricter emission controls.. so be it.. that doesn;'t mean I shold be penalised in 4 years time for a descion I made today based on a need I have right now.. nothing wrong with Govt cracking down either.. go for it.. but you cant punich or penalise those who have already made the the choice..

G'day Coyote,
Don't worry about Member "LUCY"......he is a member of our 4WD Club too (so that makes him an honoury ....if not an "haunery" South Aussie) and I happen to know for a fact that 110% of everything he says on this forum is tongue in cheek.

You'd never guess it in a million years, but he actually LOVES Patrols. On the one and only club trip he went on with us to KI last year, he couldn't keep his hands off my Patrol. He was intrigued with it to the point that he asked would I consider swapping it for his smelly, oily old 4.2 Droopcarrier with the pregnant bonnet (it suffers from terminal overheating hence the need for the HUGE reverse bonnet scoop).

Cheers mate

Roachie

Fair 'nuff.. If you think he's Ok then I'll accept maybe I over reacted to what I thought was a shortsighted and narrow minded view of the 4.2.
I'll openly brag and sing it's praises to anyone who will stand still long enough for me to get in their ear.. . I'll step back of my soap box then.. Cheers

Aw! Roachie

Just doing a bit of 'fishin' and hooked a 'coyote'

Coyote

Have to admit that I have 4.2 turbo'd 1HZ in the best Troopy you have ever seen.

The JEEP is a high tech piece of electronic managed automotive genious engineering - straight out of the ACME DIY factory.

Just one leetle hiccup and the whole management system chits itself. Lights on everywhere.

However it is an extremely powerfull little coota with very low pollution emissions when running smoothly and will tow Truckies head of his shoulders unlike Roachies V8 which would fail miserably.

Oh! Roachie thanks for the support and I now won't be looking over my shoulder whilst driving through SA next month. (LOL)

AND

Off-track

I'll have to apply a couple of 'Davids' ( instead of colourful Aussie vernacular) to you for even suggesting the JEEP is a visual pollution.

When the ban (oops meant discontinue) polluting 4.2's then you will see some visual pollution.

Great news for Patrol fans. The 3.0Di has been the best buy for quite a while for anyone looking for a heavy duty wagon with modern engine efficiency. Hopefully in addition to the engine upgrade to CRD they will put the 5 speed Auto in it and up the tow rating accordingly.
