I am after Rd conditions from Ceduna to Kingoonya Via Hiltaba& lake Gairdner.

Site Link
I have friends going Perth to Gladstone in a 2WD I suggested this way instead of the great Central Rd. I last did this track in a kingswood in 1984. I have read Post 10495 but that is almost 3 years old. Does any one have up to date info. Thanks in advance Rox

Rox

As long as it is dry it should be OK.

There is a bit of sand about but these are graded roads

he may just need to let someone know when he starts and finishes the drive

we haven't traveled it since the plot.

After I get the email from EX OZ I copy the attachment into OSI Explorer in DATA.
Then I go to www.gpsvisualizer.com/index.html then click the green writing Google Earth KML file & brouse wher I stored it. The press Go I think. It makes the file I clik on it & it launckes Google earth. Hope this makes sence.

Rox

Just put up a more detailed plot onto this site,,
when we traveled it in 2004 I would have been in 2WD all the way and I would have driven a 2WD in the road anytime except in the rain..

Current conditions are due the the rainfall out there recently (ponded water and washouts).
Just like the Birdsville Track Strezlecki etc etc sometimes they are virtual highways other times 4wd only or Closed so keep an eye on conditions. We update as info comes to hand.
We also welcome your feedback once you have travelled the road, you can use the interactive feature on the Road report.

cheers

A good link to check out the photos of the road damage around Hawker and surrounding areas - a lot of damaged roads. What a good idea to have them on the road condition web site.

We came south from Glendambo via Kingoonya to Wirrulla in April last year and it was very corrugated except last 20 kms into Wirrulla. Trip notes currently on caravaners forum documents. Other than that, quite a nice drive - around 290 kms all up by the map book. The patches of rest dust were far smoother than the harder stuff which had corrugated. Nothing that would cause a problem for a 2wd the way we went; just take it easy and allow time. A 'locals' went through in a sedan. We had the caravan, so stopped for the night as we approached the Gawlers.

My daughter went through there with her first husband 16 years ago in a company sedan (that wasn't supposed to leave the state without special permission) as a short cut on way to Alice Springs. The guy originally came from Ceduna. They found the road good then.

I don't know if any of the recent rain that went through reached that area - might have been enough to lay the dust.

Which way will they go from Glendambo?

Motherhen, they plan to go via the plenty Hwy just above the Alice. Is this OK for 2WD?

Hi Rox

The Plenty Hwy should be OK for 2wd traffic but as always, outback road conditions vary. Depending on what time of the year it is, your friend could experience extreme corrugations and/or deep bulldust. Locals drive the roads in 2wds but it would be advisable for your friend to take it easy.

Cheers
