Hi

For those interested in hi tech diesels and the transport industry, ABC Radio National is repeating a program tonight after the 7PM news. (Tuesday 7/2/07)

The discussion is about the future increase in road transport and a comparison of the emission of noxious exhaust gases of old and new technology diesel engines.

Information is on the ABCs web site, Radio National, Background Briefing. The broadcast can be downloaded to IPOD if you cannot listen to the radio broadcast and they usually put a free transcript on their web site after the broadcast.

Cheers
Phil

I think you may have told us too late, going on the time you posted this thread, don't you think, or maybe you put the wrong day down and it's tonight at 7.30pm.

Hi tech diesels and hybrib vehicle are the future, and like or not we'll have to get used too it.

Baz.

Hi Baz

ANOTHER SENIORS MOMENT!

Thanks and sorry about the wrong day.

Anyway you can still hear it on your PC or IPOD

As far as Hi Tech diesels go I think we have only just began to experience the beginning of it all. I wouldn't be surprised if we eventually see huge trucks powered by engines we never thought possible in 2007.

Cheers
Phil

Heard it about 4 30 am today. Did not realise how far fuel technology & engine design have come. A B double running on CNG saves about $150 on a 850 km run - tho i guess taxes make up a lot of that. Much lower emissions though.
Standard diesel engine apparently - still carries it as backup.
Worth downloading from the ABC web site if you have not heard.

Hi Phil,

I'll have to track down the transcript. I'm currently running a program evaluating a test fleet of prime movers running Caterpillar C-15 engines running with gas substitution. A few issues with EMS limitations of current system; however the future for gas usage for the Australian transport inductry looks very promising. The infrastructure to support this is in the process of being rolled out so expect to see changes soon. LNG is preferred due to mass of fuel stored, allowing for practical use for most haulage operators. LNG is converted to CNG via onboard heat exchanger. Looks pretty cool seeing the trucks fitted up with cryogenic tanks - the future!
