Check the road reports. Either on this site or Google. The road from Innamincka to the east has been closed for a couple of weeks now. Might still be at easter, you never know.

Leigh Creek /Balcanoona is a rough track especially north from Balcanoona. Lots of washed out dry creek crossings.

It is the Birdsville track, but you could do the Strzleki, it starts a bit further south along the same road fom the coast. Make up your mind when you get to Lyndhurst (that's why I did the "" between Birdsville and Innaminka, "either/or".)

I posted a reply last night but it must've disappeared into cyberspace.

Bundy Boy Jnr

Drive north from Port Augusta to Lyndhurst, then up the Strzelecki Track/Road to Merty Merty then to Cameron Corner, Tibooburra, Milparinka, Wanaaring, Hungerford, Eulo, Cunnamulla, St George, Goondiwindi, Warwick, Boonah, Beaudesert, Canungra, Nerang Gold Coast.

That would give you some dirt.

Cheers

Hi Bundy mob

There are lots of camp sites off the road along the Eyre Hwy. But I doubt if I could call them nice. Just keep your eyes open and start looking at about 4 in the afternoon. In some places it is best to get as far off the road as possible as the Road Trains make a heap of noise through the night. Take some earplugs with you. There is a good camping place just past Norseman called Fraser Range Station. Haven't stopped there but went in to have a look. We went down the road some kilometres at the Eyre Bird Observatory track to camp. Other campsites were in the Mallee Scrub off the side of the road.\\You can camp at Lake Gilles Cons Park between KImba and Iron KNob. Then there is another one at Hancocks Lookout near Wilmington( after Port Augusta ). On the Strzelecki there is Montecollino Bore before you turn off to Merty Merty. We camped once on the banks of the Paroo River. There are lots of places to camp.

Cheers

Hi Bradley

There are a number of places well marked where you can get right up to the edge of the Great Australian Bight. Take care when walking along the cliffs as they are crumbly in places. Hgh winds may also frequent the coast and people have been blown into the sea some 50 metres below.

Fuel is pretty expensive along the Eyre Hwy until you get in to South Australia where the price drops a bit. With a limited range like your GQ you will have to take your chances. Yalata Roadhouse has closed down.

Last year I refuelled in Norseman and managed to get home some 1900km later without having to stop at any refuelling points. I have a 330litre fuel capacity in my GQ and trailer.

Roadhouses are just what they are. Businesses along the road trying to make a living. To my way of thinking there are no good or bad ones. Its up to you whether you stop at one or not.

Cheers
