I have been thinking of adding some gold prospecting to my annual camping trips, and would like to know if many people try prospecting while on holidays. If so what metal detectors etc people use and any likely areas in NSW I could try.

I think it would add to the enjoyment of walking thru the bush

Thanks

Yep they add a sense of adventure. It another excuse to have to get out bush. You'll find every nail that god has made... I know I did. As long as you have the attitude that you're not going to find anything you'll be right, from there its a bonus.

I think the Minelabs are the flavour of the month.

Good luck

Coins and relics are more enjoyable because you have a big chance of finding something . Get a dedicated coin machine such as minelab explorer se . I started coin hunting in the seventies and have found coins such as an 1860s english penny on a beach at hervey bay . Great fun but an expensive outlay at around $1800 for a good detector . cheers

DIO ,
That's an interesting site and I just signed up . I am keen to learn about gold prospecting as I spend a lot of time in inland WA and would like to poke around in some of the more "out of the way" places I go .
Thanks for the info ,
Willie .

I work at a gold mine... our exploration teams use minelabs.
I reckon that says enough about them.

We just got a Garrett Ace 250 at Christmas. It seems to be a really great little machine with dedicated coin and jewellery settings, pinpointing and descrimination/elimination modes and at around $450 it wont break the bank. I believe they use Garrett detectors at airports.
Cheers :-)
