Hi,

Yes on both counts.

Check PostID: 38321
PostID: 35566 and older one at PostID: 18288

I went through in October last year. Remote area, you won't see anyone else. No corrugations, plenty trees across the track so be prepared to stop and pull them off. They are not big and better to pull them off than push a bypass through the bush.

The sidetracks such as down to Jyndabindin Rocks and the Fraser Range Road towards Salmon Gums are far more overgrown than the Overland Telegraph Track. Each days camel drive, you will find an old camp alongside the track with rusted water tanks and remains of shelters, reminders of older times. Not so frequently you will find shiny Optus fibre repeater stations as a reminder of the life you lead now.

Softroader would be okay from memory. We did not travel all the way through to the Eyre Highway so cannot comment on anything past Fraser Range Road. There is a steep climb down to ??Lake Dundas?? that I used low range for, but apart from that it's a nice sandy track.

Davoe's comments are right in 18288, a lot of it was burnt out several years ago so not so much to see, but an interesting enough diversion off the main drag.

250K maps have the region well marked. www.dundaspost.com.au/ has some good mud maps suitable for import into OziExplorer.

all the best

Tim

Thanks for that. I checked out those other posts and they were all full of useful information.

Just one question - on Google Earth I see the track has close encounters with salt lakes. Lake Dundas is a causeway, and the track skirts around the other lakes. Is the track sound at these points?

Thanks
Jeff

the causeway at lake dundas is dodgey unless it has been upgraded as i think there has been some exploration out that way. the track around the second salt lake is fine i have done the track several times an never took it out of H2. Norseman didnt recieva s much rain as Esperance but still may pay to check
