hi there
can anyone please shed some light on this problem for me.
i have a 2001 frontera mx and have recently put it on gas.i have a problem with the
check engine light coming on all the time which i've been told can be fixed by using the right emulator eithier from the injectors or o2 sensors or both.can anybody tell me which is the right emulator and do i need both.it also has a problem with coming back down to idle rpm's when you take your foot off the accelerator.i've been told by the installer its because of the electronic throttle on the vehicle which is also controlled by the vehicles ecm.can anyone tell me wether the right emulators in the right
places will fix this problem also or is this another seperate issue altogther.hopefully someone out there can help me.
thanks

When the light comes can you still start the car? I had the problem on my 2002 model and when the light came on I could not start the car. After a few goes the car did eventually start. In my instance it was a fault in the system. Looking back at the warranty claim papers it shows it was an "Oxygen sensor" part number GM8972873520 and it was replaced by Holden under warranty. At the time I was told Holden had a lot of claims on this particular sensor.

Finally I thought I was the only one.
I have been running my 2002 'Terra on gas for just over 12 months.
Check eng light on also. The fix was to tape over the light or remove the bulb!
Also had the "racing" of the engine if over 3500rpm and very slow to return to idle. The latter seems to have resolved itself somewhat as it is no where near as noticeable as it was when new. It was almost dangerous as you usually remove your foot to slow down, and it would seem to get even faster.
I always switch to petrol when going down our range as there is no engine braking when on gas.
The light hasn't affected performance though the installer that keep fidlling with it has a much greater affect. His last attack to "service" the installation resulted in almost no power.
We have had the sensors cleaned a couple of times, and this turns the light off while on petrol but returns immediately once back on gas. The longer on gas the longer it takes for the light to go out. I've just run 1000 k's on petrol and it still hasn't gone off this time. It was about 40 k's when new.
Economy used to be good until they had their last go at it.
I haven't heard about this "emulator" but the problem is apparently quite fixable for the autos but not for the manuals.
If you just have a prob with the light, don't worry. If there are other issues, make sure they fix it for you.
Would I do it again to a Frontera??? NO
Am I happy I've done it? Not really. But it is still worth while for the longer trips and during the cooler months as it is cheaper to run and gives a longer range all up.
I would like to hear if you can fix it.
Regards Cam

Hey Guy's
"For LPG it is recommended that “cold” plugs be used. The spark gap has to be set shorter as
well."
If this is true then non-standard plugs may have been put in your Frontera's, which will throw the computer out as it expects a specific spark plug resistance.
