Please help me with your feedback. Currently have a GU Patrol blackwidow drawsystem with a fridge slide on the right. I am looking at getting the barrier and shelf, but am curious as to whether or not there is enough room to access behind the fridge once it is pulled out fully to get in between the barrier and behind the fridge to attach the straps and power plug? Would appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

I have the same Black Widow draw system with fridge slide on the drivers side. I also have the Cargo barrier, Barrier Partition and top shelf though I'm not 100% sure on your question? I have a 40ltr Engel on the drivers side and have had no issue with getting power but I have power plugs on both sides of the vehicle.....Where is your power plug situated?

Thanks for your feedback. We have the plug just near the back door on the drivers side and no problems with this. I was curious as to how much room you have once the fridge is fully out between the back of the fridge and the barrier. Is there enough room to get your arm behind and tighten the straps. Obviously if you have the cargo barrier in as well there is no access from behind the back seats so you have to come in from the front. As per Tucks info I feel he might have the same problem as my thoughts.

Never had an issue getting to the back tie downs to secure the fridge but mine is only the 4oltr so this may be different for a larger unit?

Amanda
I have a 100 series with full Black Widow system. I assume dimensions are about the same for the GU.
I have a 60 litre Engel, shelf over top of fridge and 2 drawers. Also have the BW cargo barrier.
I need to work by braille to tie down the back (front?) of the fridge as I can't get my head over to see what I'm doing. I works OK though.
I have the power lead plugged into my plug up against the rear seats before I put the fridge in. When the fridge is fully out, the plug on the fridge is just clear of the drawers (my fridge is on left side).
I did find that stuff that fell over the front of the shelf was difficult to get back, so I cut a section oput of the barrier mesh (I know you are not supposed to alter the factory built barrier.) Anything that falls down is now easily accessible.

Thanks for the info Tuck, but can you tell me if the fridge is fully extended out how much room do you have to get between the barrier and the back of the fridge?

I think we are at odds over terminology here.
With the fridge slide right out, there is the lenght of the slide between it (or the back of the fridge) and the barrier.
My 60 litre Engel takes up the full length of the slide. When installed, there is only an inch or so clearance between the top of the fridge and the shelf above it. When the slide is fully extended, there is about a 5-6 inch gap over the back end of the top into the cavity left by sliding out the fridge. I then reach over this and one-handed hook the two halves of my back straps together, and pull the end to tighten the straps. The plug socket on the fridge is just clear of the side of the cupboard, so can plug it in when full extended.
My straps are those 2 piece numbers, one end each tied to the slide and the fridge handle. A hook doover on one end sits in a loop thingo on the other, then simply pull tight.
The hole through the barrier (about 6" high, 12" long) is only to recover stuff that has fallen off the front of the shelf. I don't use it for putting the fridge in or tying it down.

I don't have a barrier as part of my system, but would think the most logical solution would be to:-

1. Extend the fridge slide to its fully open position
2. Place the fridge on the slide
3. Connect the power leads and holding straps for the fridge
4. Close the slide

To secure the fridge, I use a pair of adjustable ROK Straps. These are flat, elastic straps which stretch a bit, then hold the fridge very steady on the slide.

I'm really pleased with the Black Window System.
One of the best investments I have made.

Thanks sandman. I do understand your logical solution but bearing in mind that once the barrier is in and the fridge is fully out on the slide there is limited room to get between the barrier and the back of the fridge. I to have to agree with your re the Black Widow System. We have had it in only a few months now and havent looked back since. Just looking at the barrier and shelving now to store items on top of the draws.

I made up my own "top shelf". Couldn't justify BW's asking price as I only fit it when travelling, so knocked one up for total cost of $50. Have a look in my rig pics.
