Hi to all Im after some info on a locker to suit front of GU Patrol. I dont do a lot of heavy off road but looking for something that I can rely on if needed. The Detroit does look and sound good but have no real info on the Lockright. Dollar difference is approx $4oo , is it worth the extra for the Detroit.( I have also looked at ARB air locker but have my reasons at this stage to look elsewhere)

Lockright in my last GU was GREAT!...
If this one didnt come with front and rear airs,,, i would have fitted another Lokka and kept the standard rear LSD....

I can only comment on the ARB lockers and I swear by them. I have used
mine over and over and they are still going strong. Sounds like you have had a bad run with the ARB lockers?

Then look at the TJM Pro Locker - either ARB or TJM will urinate all over the others..
If you are in
Melbourne (or even if you arent) call Alan at Outback accessories in Seaford, great bloke will give you the truth.

Have run a detroit for a good few years now with no problems at all.
I run it on the back as cruisers have useless lsd's. Up front I would be reluctant to run any locker I could not disengage, 2 reasons for this are steering control and the other is shock loading.
I won't question your reasons for not looking at an air locker but they are the ants pants on a front diff.
Hope you make the right choice for what you want.
Have a good one

The Detroit’s are more expensive as they replace the entire carrier, where the Lock rights and alike simply Fit into the existing carrier.
Basically the Detroit’s are solid as a
rock, the Lock rights aren’t quite as strong but should still not give you any problems.

well if you want to spend $2000 or what ever the hell it is on a air locker go for it, me I would rather fit a Auto mechanical Locker save ya money to spend on something else, Fact is the mechanical one work, they are reliable and you don’t need to worry about compressors, Air lines and seals, to me that’s tick in every box.

Hi Brian, Mate has a lcokright in a GQ, he has decided he loves it but he is going othe the pro locker on the ne GU.... Only reason... He does a lot of Central Oz and likes to drive in 4wd when on drirt tracks. Sensible, but the auot locker in the front make the vehicle very touchy at high speeds. If all you are doing in 4wd is slow stuff then go fro it, high speed stuff could make you tired very quickly..
Regards
Ray

sorry it took me so long to get back , thanks all for your input , I am certainly not knocking the ARB air locker but my SWMBO is not aware of the expenditure and would ask embarassing questions about compressor noise under bonnet at various times

Oooooh.... that's priceless!
I slipped one in the rear under the cover of 'necessary diff repairs'. It was not the compressor noise that gave it away, but those glowing blue buttons on the dash that light up beautifully when the lights are on.
I should have removed the globes and mumbled something like, 'dunno...better get it looked at', when the compressor came on.
Thanks Brian, you have made my day. I am not alone.
Matt.
