Hi everyone

I have a Coleman Hot Water on Demand unit - completely standard.

I have only just started using it as a shower unit. Sitting on stool say 30 cm off ground - with shower head (Coleman standard) going up into Shower Tent.

Turn on - thermostat kicks in - goes too hot - then turns out and does not reignite.

I tried removing shower attachment and thermostat seemed to kick in and out correctly.

Any suggestions

We have one of these - fantastic unit for providing instant washing up water and shower water. Especially in a static camp of more than a couple of days. Just leave it set up and it is ready to go at all times.

We tried using it with the shower head direct, but the flow rate is miserable and it is awkward to use without getting the unit wet and so on.

We found the best bet is to use the unit to fill a canvas bush shower bucket with hot water and then use the shower bucket hung up in shower tent or strung from a tree branch. Works a treat.

Cheers

There must be something restricting the water flow to make the thermal cutout kick in, we set ours up the same way as you, although higher off the ground (about 700mm) & have no problems.
Admit that the shower head is ordinary, we fitted a very cheap hand held shower head & it's much better. I believe the ones like come on the cheap 12v plug in showers work well too.

Hi Alan, the 2 suggestions I could make that we had trouble with are making sure that the battery is fully charged. If ours wasn't, the pump would be a tad slower causing the hot water to "back up" in the lines , then shut down the unit.( was very frustrating at Bendethera at 5deg in the evening) The other possibility, the gauze filter is not blocked on the bottom of the pump? The best thing we did to improve the water flow for showers though was ditch the shower head and got a $20 water saving one from K mart. Then removed the water saving plug on the inside of the head.

As a preliminary point - why do you sit on a stool 30cm of the ground whilst having you ablutions? Have you tried standing up?

Happy days

Hi Alan - As above, our unit works perfectly for showers (with an alternate head), with reasonable pressure. Bought it about 10 trips ago, used (turned on/off) about 70 times to date. They work well.

The fact that it works without the shower head suggests a restriction in the hose or shower head. Dismantle/check the showerhead might solve it.

On the plastic intake of the pump is a circle of fine gause to filter the water. Perhaps something partially blocking that? Simply unscrew the end cap to clean it.

We did the CLR flush/clean on the unit (as per the instructions) when first purchased.
Worth a try - cleans any residue in the pipes from the manufacturing process.
(CLR - Calcium, Lime, Rust cleaner from Bunnings or most hardwares).

Worth resolving, as they do work well..........................Keith

Hi everyone

Happy to report that after following a few of the suggestions, consistent hot showers last night. Al's Day Spa (as it has been called in our family) is back in action :)

Thanks for the tips. I will look into swapping the shower head shortly also.

Cheers (I just love this forum),

Alan

Sorry forgot to mention:

I think the issue for me was the height of the Coleman unit. I had it sitting on small stool - say 30cm off ground. Tried it sitting on table (guess 75cm off the ground) - less distance to pump up - and hey presto - all is good.
