Hi Julie
I always start looking for a
campsite around 3.30-4pm.
When you plan your trip, then you will know, more or less, where you will be on a particular day. Use the internet to see what is available in those regions. There are a number of commercial campsites along the way which you propose and which could be quite nice. I normally look for a river or
creek where I could sneak off to or a lonely track to nowhere and I get off the main roads as far as possible so as to be able to get a good nights rest. If there is absolutely no alternative then I would look for a commercial
camp site.
In South Australia you are allowed to
camp within 50 metres either side of a gazetted road (providing there is no fence in your way) and there are many lonely connector roads between highways with good
places to stop over. If you belong to a motoring club(AA or alike) then get the South Australia area maps for where you will be travelling.
Enjoy.
Cheers

Had friends who worked at
Arkaroola till 2 months ago. They were thre for 9 months and loved it.
Don't know if there is
camping there or if you have to stay in the flash bits.

Hello Julie,
Depends upobn what style of
camping you are after and whether you are tenting, swagging or have a van etc.
If you prefer it away from others and have the facilities on board to be self sufficient then take Willem's suggestion and seek out an area of road somewhere that suits. Other than that you can stay ay the various caravan parks and a search through the internet should reveal details about the ammenities at each location.
Personally I prefer the off in the bush self sufficient choice with the occasional sojourn in a hotel or van
park (depending on how long our trip is) just to freshen up.
Can also depend on the weather...if it's dam hot head for the local 5 star hotel and a coldie.

Julie
I have a book called camps 3 which contains information of all
camping sites around Australia.
I suggest that you purchase / borrow a copy of this book and it will contain all the information you require.

Hi Julie
The
Morgan Caravan
Park on the
Murray River is a nice spot, not too expensive either.
Port Augusta is a noisy place. The Stuart Range CP is a nice spot too.
Cheers Peter
