I had a vj valiant which i purchased in 1976, and sold in 86, with the original battery. Dunno what sort it was had, a blue chrysler sticker covering one side. Thought that was a good run, considering our suby has had three in ten years.
Cheers Axle.

Ahh, the good old Baliant. I owned a VG two door, a VH
sedan, a VH wagon, a VH Charger, A VK ute, a CH Chrysler by Chrysler
sedan (aka The Limo of Love) a 1965 Phoenix and a 1968 Phoenix.
Doesn't surprise me one bit Axle. Great, great vehicles.

Axle none of those vehicles run the slant 6 - they were taken out of service with the VF and replaced by the 245 in the VG and complimented with the 215 and 265 6s in the VH as
well as the 318 V8

As
well as the rare 340ci V8 (E55) and
the rock solid 360ci V8.
Some other anomalies in previous years was the big block 318, often confused with the smaller 'A' block of the same size. 383's were an Australian delivery from 1968 and continued up until 1972 in the Phoenix. The smaller 273ci V8 was a Valiant motor used that made its debut in the AP3?

Hi Willem
Those Yuasa are pretty good!, just replaced two 12vs in a excavator which have lasted 5yrs, considering the vibration & shock going through them from the said machine, i thought they where pretty good.
You would be a good
test pilot for any battery the
places you go lol.
Cheers

The greek mercedies. I have some anecdotal evidence to say the valiant must have had by fluke a long lasting batt. I did a tafe course in mechanics (10 years ago), the teacher in the battery section said he say a valiant once get 14 years from a batt and it was ok. He was saying it should be replaced in case the car brakes down (end of the world), I say leave it untill it brakes down.

When my dad was still alive many moons ago he was blaming me for stuffing up the battery on his series 1 Landrover (
farm car), when we sat down we worked out the batery was 20 odd years old. It was an old rubber cased unit with bitumen between the terminals, he neither did apologises for blaming me!

I have an 90 mod EA falcon S pack purchased new 17 years ago and yes it has the original battery. It is nearly seventeen years old now with only 210000 on the clock and regularly serviced . not bad for a ford product.

Yep the old black rubber batteries last a long time. The one in the old mans Holden Premier lasted over 20 years. And that was starting the V8 Chevy. He whinged and complained when the new one only lasted 18 months!

Axle,
My parents have a 1993 Mercedez 400 SEL V8 which still has the original battery. It is like a 4wd battery in size and lives in the boot. The car has electric everything and yet the original battery is still going strong.
