I was looking to buy some Anderson Plugs, 50 amp.

Got quoted:

TJM $19.50
ARB $19.95

If you have ever seen one of these things they are little more than a plastic encased pair of electrical contacts.

Derek from ABR (not to be confused with ARB) sells then for $9.95.
Jaycar do them for $12.95.

Doesn't surprise me really. I saw a yellow 13 watt, 12 volt fluoro at TJM for $56 that was identical to one available at Jaycar for $17. Bloody good light for $17. A rip at $56.

The uninitiated trot into these "specialist" stores and get the clacker ripped put of them, believing they are are dealing with experts in the field.

Evil, I'm not sure I completely get your point. It is somewhat convoluted.

Yes I do work for Myer. Yes I do shop at Aldi; they have wonderful lamb, cheese and many other food lines. Myer is a department store and does not sell food.

Hence, how is buying food at Aldi being disloyal to Myer?

ARB / TJM they are all having product now built overseas, why to compete with cheap imports! who looses in the long run we do!! no jobs!!

I bet their products are still overpriced, depsite the fact that some would be built in the same factorys overseas as the "cheap imports".

Jimbo,
Of course they would be, most online stores have very little overheads, they don't have..
Public liability insurance
Product insurance
Superannuation to pay
Holiday pay
Factory rent
Sick pay
Workcover
Power bill
It goes on and on!!!

All you have to do is look at the flashy ARB showrooms to tell they arent exactly giving you the best deal on the planet .

ARB gave me a quote for a cargo barrier, $650 fitted and they would need the car for a day. Just had a cargo barrier installed AT HOME by authorised Milford supplier/installer for $532 and it took less than 2 hours!!! It is worth shopping around.

Cheers and Beers

Agree with Diesel Power, Shop around but also as said how about supporting local businesses. Did you try your local auto electrician for the plugs? Probably not (and I'm not picking on you as we ALL do it) bet he's the first place you go when you can't work out what is going on with your dual batteries or whatever!

How often do you go in to the flashy ARB shop (or wherever) so you can look at the item and ask questions.. maybe even play with it. Then go and buy it off EBAY.

Yes the margains are higher (we run our own baby store, no we don't charge a big margain) however we have to pay rent, power, wages, fixtures to display them on, and spend time understanding the products and pay for them so there is one here for you to look at, and the other colours so you can see them, and the different branded one so you can compare that etc etc.

What do you get from Ebay? A cheap price. They don't have tpo provide any of the above, heck I have a customer who can tell you about the bargain pram they bought for $480 plus frieght. 8 Monthas ago and still hasn't turned up.
