What were his reasons? Did he want them to wear out quickly?

he's main reason was as they were not steer wheels the load at 100klms would out do any good (he,s calc was 9 grams? of weight at 100klms per hour is 9kgs of force of out of round & this would load the bearings more than if they were unbalanced)

I can only see it helping the handleing and longevity of your trailer and it's components. How much it helps is up for discussion. Personaly I'd go with a balance!

If BJ's don't want your business, you should be happy to oblige them. Take your tyres to a real tyre and wheel proffessional and have them balanced.
Cheers,
Dion.

I build Camper Trailers for a living and buy all my Tyres at B Jane in Browns Plains. They have never asked me if I wanted the wheels balanced and just did it every time. I would say your bloke was just a bit tired that day.......or in gerneral :-)

if he claims that 9 grams will equate to 9 kgs of force, then by not getting the wheel balanced will create a 9 kg force on the opposite side to where he would have to put the weight! And even at 100 kph it would never get anywhere near 9kgs. IMHO this guy is full of BS and I would never go into his store again, there are plenty of other honest dealers around that would be more than happy to help you out.
Cheers Tony.
