Any advice please on fitting, usefulness, and best brands of air suspension kits for the rear springs of a LWB Mercedes Sprinter van? Van is a 1999 214D. Thanks, Keith

Solly.
Interesting question, are you going for softer or firmer springing? There are a range of factory springs available. Because the van is so tall the springs have a heavy sway bar fitted. Just by removing this bar you can soften the ride but reduce your cornering speed. If you were to go to full air suspension you would have to engineer a complete new suspension,if you go that way I will be very interested in helping you as I have considered this and decided it was to hard to fit it all in. Hi Eric, The reason for considering this modification was only to give extra lift for gutters or creek crossings. So no change to existing suspension which I am very happy with on the road, just the possible addition of air bags so I can lift the rear. The Sprinter has a long overhang. Keith

Quit agree, I've got 110 mm spacer between spring and axle and an extra 110mm length rod on the brake control valve, plus 16 inch wheels with 235/85 16 silent armers. This gives me more ground clearance than a troopy. Eric.

Hi Eric, Interesting. One final question please. How is highway handling? I assume being higher would affect stability a bit. Keith

SOLLY.
The extra hight must effect it but I have not had any problems so far. I did a very fast trip from Alice Springs to Melbourne in 30 hours driving time, handles ok at high speed. Eric.
