Hi,
Well I have now tried everything to get my fridge to last an entire trip without some mishap, unfortunately education does not seem to work and the kids...and wife keep either leaving the fridge open at some point or they fill it with warm drinks.
My only option now is to install a second auxiliary battery...and it would be nice if it would fit under the bonnet. I understand there are two locations available under the bonnet - both on the firewall on the rear left hand side of the engine as
well as on top of the shock mount. Has anyone else done something similar?
The car is a 1996 4.2 Diesel Nissan.
Thanks in advance
Rod

If it is an Engel then I have a better idea
Buy a Two Zone to fit on top of fridge. Run fridge on freeze at all times. Top will stay cool while stuff in bottom will stay frozen. We ahve one and it works really
well.
Alternatively put small lock on fridge and keep key in pocket
Cheers

I love the second idea Willem.
Reminds me of my late father-in-law. One of his favourite sayings was 'I'll put a lock on the b@stard'. And he did. On the phone, the side
gate, the garden shed, his bar fridge and lots more. But he had seven kids, and only 2 eyes and 1 good leg (he had polio as a kid). So you couldn't blame him. It worked.

yes both, i have recently changed my 2nd battery holder to the standard one near the fire wall (you can buy the standard pirana battery holder from any of the 4x4
places, i got
mine from tjm) i used to have one over the shock but that interferred with putting a
snorkel on the car. an auto electrician can fit the isolator and cables (easy job) and you can bolt the holder in (comes with instructions dont worry) or you can go to the $800 or more versions with light gauges etc from any 4x4
shop. i took an 80 ltr waeco to the cape and back with the duel batteries and didnt have any problems ( 4 blokes drinking beer every nite so it got a work out hahahah)
i can send you some pics of the setup if u would like

You want the best idea?
Leave the wife and kids at
home and take yer mates. They fully understand the importance of keeping a fridge cold,,,,,,,,,,

Hi,
Sorry, after placing this post my internet connection was unavailable...we have just got back on line now!!!
GQ again - do you have dual "auxiliary batteries"? or just dual batteries - as in a single auxiliary battery? were you driving every day whilst at the cape (between beers I meant to say)?
My concern is the inner guard may crack due to the weight of two aux batteries - could I hang another off the firewall as a simple (read cheap) workaround. There's no room in the car or on the roof....!!!
When I can I like to grab the fishin rod out and dissapear on
the beach for the day so we end up stationary for more than the 30 hours the single battery seems to cope with. Unfortunately the wife, kids and fridge are alone together....My current aux is not a deep cycle.
Regards
Rod
