Last time I used them it was free for a basic search but they also had an optional $10 fee which guaranteed it was safe in writing and they would cover you if they made an error.
I guees this means they dont guarrantee %100 accuracy on a basic search.

Well that all went without a hitch.
Revs has a toll free number 1300 30 40 24 and required the license plate , chassis and engine number.
Lass put those in the computer and advised instantly that it was clear. The information only applies to those finance companies that log their transactions to the system so can't be 100% accurate but generally better than no information at all.
No charge and super friendly service.

Without looking at the Act/Regs I seem to remember that if the financier has not registered their interest in the vehicle on the system, they are not protected - i.e you as purchaser in good faith and for valuable consideration have good title as against their unregistered interest.
Not certain about this but I'm sure their would be a web site with the correct position - or visit the Office for Business and Consumer Affairs in your State
Happy days

John, did you get the printed certificate with the reciept number stamped on it ?? I know they charge about $15 for it but covers you in the event they have made a mistake. If not the phone call you made will mean jack sh#t in the event that they have made a stuff up or the car is a rebirth. My mate still paying a $40,000,00
tarago off with out the vehicle as it was repoed. He is now driving around in a $5000 mitsibishi magna and has another 2 years of finance yet.Long story but turned out it was a hire car rebirthed and belonged to the NRMA as they had written it off prior and it was bought from the auctions and repaired (very boggi) and put back on road. He did a revs
check as
well but didnt get the stamped certificate so his word meant jack sh#t. Dont know bout over there but here you can actually ring the rta and they will inform you as to wether or not the car has ever been ridden off and rebirthed again, this also worth checking out. Here in april the NRMA will be shutting down there vehicle inspection service so can you imagine all the crap that will be out there for sale. My mate use to work for them and the amount of bodgy repairs done to vehicles was astonishing shouldnt have been on the road. He rang the rta on a lot of them and had them red defected straight away. In SA, we have the Vehicles Securities Registrar, a division of the Dept. of Transport, Motor Registration Devision.
Couldn't find the current cost by searching, but some years ago I paid $40 for a certificate indicating "no encumbrances on the vehicle".
