after a weekend of play, and lack of power shi__ing me off, i was in the engine pay of the GU with the degreaser and a scrubbing brush and came accross the source of my frustration.......my waste gate controller was STUCK! Stuck at about half way! I cleaned it up and lubed the area with the good old WD40, check for full operation, and test drove! OMG!! the 285/75's were sqeeling..... It must have been like this since i bought it 6 months ago, as it has never had this much power before. I ordered the 3" dump pipe and exhaust from BD exhaust last week, so i cant wait to install it and see the power grow.....

Buy yourself a boost gauge! VDO sell a beauty.

You need this to know what it's doing- otherwise you can have problems with over OR under boost. I wouldn't have a car without a temp gauge, and I wouldn't have a turbo without a boost gauge.

Seems to have gone offtrack on ya a bit there wayne-o. Autotechnica make a nice gauge too. generally you have to run power from your parker light circut so it lights up when it should and you will need to buy a t piece and cut into the vaccume line running to the wastegate. i dont have a diesel patrol so not sure exactly where the line is but you should be able to find it. if in bris i can assist ;-)
cheers

Very simple fit.
You just need a T in the line from the manifold to the wastegate controller, or a simple outlet fitting screwed into the manifold.
It senses boost pressure in the manifold downstream of the turbo- and you therefore know exactly what the turbo is doing.
Not sure, but I suspect yours would be running between 8 to 12 psi boost, depending on the set up. (Mine runs 12 psi, which it reaches at about 2000 rpm. ) As soon as there is any problem with the wastegate or controller you'll know because boost will be abnormal.
Find your local VDO outlet- you need the gauge (0-15 psi) plus fitting kit- just a plastic tube with fittings. Don't get one for a petrol engine- they have vacuum AND boost.
Mine cost about $80 all up from memory, a few years ago.
God knows how many engines have blown up over the years because the boost has gone wrong due to a sticky wastegate or whatever, with the driver having no idea.
As I said, I wouldn't own a turbo without one.

Oh great, does that mean all the nissans will now be driven like OVLOVs? Except Roachie's and Bilbo's of course who don't have a nissan diesel anymore.

I have a friend that has a GU 3.0 Diesel AND a BMW R1100. This explains why he has tried to run himself over several times.

It won't make much difference at all to Nissan Owners. Nissan Diesel is not the same as Nissan automotive. This sin't like the Nissan/Renault alliance, they aren't sharing platforms or technology.... Now Nissan Truck owners that's different.
