I took the family to
Melbourne for the weekend and to save a few $ we decided to drive over and take the camper.
We left
Adelaide about 6pm friday night and all was going to plan until....................it almost ended in tragedy.
Just before Bordertown there is a turn off to Pinaroo. I could see tail lights in the distance so i had just turned the
driving lights off. As i approached the Pinaroo turn off i noticed a semi trailer off to the left approaching the highway.
Well as it turns out he didn't see us because he came straight out at us. I really don't know how we missed him but i locked the brakes up and skidded and turned a bit and we slid around him on the wrong side of the road. I ended up infront of him as i had to power on to get back onto my side of the road.
Damage list 4 flat spotted BFG AT's.
On a +ve..........We are all alive.
And no i never did get his plate.

A close call and I am sure all that read will be gald to hear that you and your family survived without a mark.
When you leave
home and get behind the wheel you never know what could happen, accidents do happen but most often to someone else.
Glad to hear that no one was injured, did you decide to carry on and get some enjoyment from the weekend or did you turn around and head
home?
Has you bloody pressure and heart rate returned to normal yet?

I stopped at Bordertown for a while until the blood started pumping normally again. And the weekend was great fun even though we got flogged in the A-League final. And yes you are correct.....you never know what is going to happen when you leave
home and get behind the wheel.

I've had a similair one where a semi with a dog trailer came around a bend doing about 120, the dog trailer came across to my side of road and I was just waiting on the bang! I had to go bush to miss the p#$%k!
And everyone including the Police at next town said 'didnt you get his number'
like evryone else in this situation self preservation was top of my priority list and my photographic memory was otherwise engaged!
My solution to this would be for vehicles to be fitted with a small dash mounted camera which is recording to a small flashdrive, which just records last 10mins and rewrites over it. In a situation like this, all your evidence is on the drive, call cops n charge, this would give number plates etc, and vital evidence in fatal single occupant crashes.
Cameras are sooo small nowadays, it could be mounted on rear of mirror and designed to come on when engine running, and stop on command or impact.
A simple removeable flashdrive (memory stick) say in glove box, and theres your evidence.
Rgds

I really never thought about getting the number until someone mentioned it the next day. I think the brain just hits survival mode.

Brew
I just luv a great 'self recovery story' and this one fits the 'great' category.
Well done Brewster and I now have pleasure to announce to all and sundry that you are a fully fledged member of the
Forum 'pink nissan mafia', which authorises you to carry out the following:
(1) Be an expert on anything and everything.
(2) Throw 'david' at every Toyota and JEEP owner you see, and heaps of it.
(3) Brag about anything and everything
(4) Give Pesty and Muddy heaps
(5) Continue to drive that GQ 'david' heap around without fear or favour.
(6) Barrack for the Crows
(7) Continue worshiping Roachie as your Guru
(8) Whip SWMBO into line when ever you feel like or just when ever
(9) Have as many beers as you like to get over the horrendous scare you have just suffered.
(10) Claim pain, suffering, mental disturbance, physical interferance, madness, etc as a defence to any future allegations of Homicide, Fratricide, Patricide, infanticide, gout, beer belly etc that may , god forbid, befall you.
All in all you have done
well my friend and survived to read this epistle.

Relieved Brew69 that there was no serious damage or injury. I would however suggest that you take this as a warning. Think how did it come to this.
34 years of motorcycling left me with only 2 scars (1 from a car and 1 because I was an idiot). What I learned in that time and what you can adopt, in presuming that you don't already, is to play the "What If Game". In this case you should have assumed "what if" he hasn't seen me. The give way
sign doesn't necessarily guarantee that he will give way or indeed stop if facing a
stop sign. Don't assume that a green light will guarantee you won't get cleaned up. The list goes on and on.
I guess it's basically defensive driving.
There is a lesson there for you Brew. Take it and die of old age with a smile on your face.
All the best. Wayne

Glad you and your family came out of it relatively unscathed Brew, and you must have done the right thing, because you did come out of it ok. Accidents are just that - something that is totally unforeseen and happens so quickly.
Well done.
Just yesterday driving
home from work, i was behind a car following a slow truck up the
hill; double white line, and the impatient driver passed the truck nearing the crest - and of course Murphy prevailed and a car was coming the other way - truck pulled over onto the verge to make room and the oncoming car slowed enough to prevent disaster. I couldn't see the rego plate, and wished i had a 2way to ask to driver to take his rego and report the near miss. We are lucky if we make it anywhere unharmed.
