Interesting info about Common Rail Fueling with Piezo Injectors.

Does anybody know what type of injectors the new LandCruiser V8 will have?

Looks a bit low in specs for the V8 (only 500nm)
and the mileage at 15mpg for the V8 doesn't sound overly impressive
either ..

I must have read a different article?? 500 lb-ft is 678 Nm.
15mpg is for a petrol test car, the diesels were up to 25mpg.

From page 2 of the link

"Performance
The V-6 is rated at 270 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque, and the V-8 is good for around 325 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque

Miles Per Gallon
In a test of a Durango SUV with the 4.7L gasoline V-8, engineers measured a combined city/highway rating of 15.3 mpg. The diesel V-6 achieved 22.1 mpg in the same test, a 44 percent improvement. The diesel V-8 in the Ram 1500 did even better with a 49 percent improvement. It scored a combined city/highway rating of 21.7 mpg, compared to a Hemi that was rated at 14.6 mpg. In highway driving simulations, the diesel Durango made 25 mpg and the Ram 1/2-ton sipped just 24.6 mpg of diesel. "

thanks .. have been only flying over the article ...
big fuss about nothing ...
the LBZ Duramax from GM is using the Bosch technology since 2005 and is in its
second generation with the LMM now being delivered ...
the GM V8 makes 360hp and 800+nm .. most guys report 19-22 mpg (US gallon 3.6l)..
have fun

Must be copying the Bosch system, released last year on the VW 2.0l diesel and other cars.
Friend get 4.5l/100k on the open road and about 5 l/100k around town.
Another friend in the club is getting under 4, about 3.7l/100k on the open road in a diesel polo.
System allows up to 10 injections per power stroke, instead of the old one injection.

Maybe double those figures for a 4l diesel?

I think those figures are a little optimistic. We have manual 2.0 diesel golf, gets low 5's on the highway, high 5's to low 6's around town, still very impressive though and heaps of grunt.

A friend of mine is getting 4.5l/100km from the 2.0 DSG. It's been getting better as the engine is getting the km's on the clock, started out a bit under the 6 mark.

I have a new VW Jetta auto with the 2.0TDI - getting 4.5l/100km on freeway trips and mid 5s around town.

Have averaged 6.13L/100k across 34000km. Seems a little high then, will bring that up at the next service. Not real happy overall, mate has an Astra diesel and it seems to be built a little better than the Golf.

Gee, didn't realise there were so many other VW drivers out there.
Those figures for the 2.0l diesel golf is a friend in the VW drivers club who is known to get good economy.
Good to see a few others getting near it too.
Now my old stock 74 beetle (42kw) is only getting about 8 to 9l/100k (best on the highway is about 7.5l/100k), and the modified 74 beetle is about 12l/100k (but 120kw), and the 78 MK1 golf (MK II 1800cc GTi motor and early bosch fuel injection) about 8l/100k. Will have to drop in the 5 speed box in the golf to get better.
Just shows how much modern VWs have improved.

Remember gallons aint gallons. Imperial is 4.54 litres and the US fuel gallon is 3.9 litres or something like that.
