Hi Everyone

Son has started his first job and is looking at a 3L diesel dual cab hilux. Would someone have any idea on the fuel economy he is likely to get.
I used to have a 2.8L one and from memory economy wasnt that crash hot.

Cheers

Howard T.

Hi Howard,
I have a 3 Litre Diesel Hilux (this is the 5L motor) with a large canopy (read lots of air resistance) and get 12litres/100k. See pic on members rig page.

lt will give him around the 10L/12L per 100 mark possibly 9's when on the open road at 90/100klms. I'm not sure what the issue would have been with your 2.8 but I consistantly get 9/10 per 100 all the time, maybe touching 11/12 towing camper with air on and foot is firtually flat to the boards the whole time. Good old beast but very sluggish, There isnt much differance with the 3 Litre only 5kw diff. If you get the 5LE is 70 kw but noticeable differance when driving. If he's intending to do some serious 4wdriving then I would advise a diff lock in the front end to stop the diff going bang. Very common problem with the IFS front end especially if he gets the front in the air but if using purely for work and the occanional 4wdriving then shouldnt be a major issue. His best bet would be to drive one and make sure he is going to be happy with the performance. If only on P Plates then this is a good thing as it will be less tempting for him to put the boot down. Happy hunting plenty out there & plenty off sh#t boxes to. You have obviously had them before so will know what your looking at Steve M

Hi,
I have an 03 cab chasis 3l diesel. I will get round to selling one of these days. I use it as my sunday car. It has 110 000 ks on the clock and I regulary get 650ks from 70l diesel. Which these days is around 6 weeks.
Also have an 6/06 3l turbo Navara cab chassis which I get just under 600ks for 70litres. Has 30 000 on the clock and am hoping it will run in very soon and get better fuel economy.

I have a 3lt turbo Hilux. I had a 99 model and now have an 04 model. same motor. The older one has now 215000km on it and my newer one has 47000km. Daughter has older one. They both get about 11ltr to 100km normal driving, sometimes a bit better, only about 13ltr to 100km when towing. Depends on the weight of tow and speeds done.
