I know the tyre thing has been done to death but would like to get other opinions of what mud tyre is best suited for the Victorian High County. Would like opinions of people that use the tyres offroad.

Tyres will be used on vehicle for 7 months of winter and used offroad every week but will be driven around Melbourne and up to the bush as well. Have used BFG mud tyres before, but have had too many leaks and flats. Looking at Mickey Thompson Baja Claw radials or MTZ or others?

The main attribute for the high country I drive would be steep slippery tracks and bog holes. Tyre size would be 31-10.5 or 265/75r16

Thanks!

MTR's.
Why are you driving bogholes, you can usually go around them.. all bogholes does is root ya bearings, brakes, seals, bushes and more. Also with everyone driving them making them 400ft deep gives parks another reason to do a Gembrook on us.

Not maintaining your vehicle causes damage to your bearings, brakes, seals and bushes not driving through a bog hole.

Truckster,

What have they done to Gembrook? I spent a lot of time up there in the early 90's teaching leadership and could find almost my way around blindfolded.

pete.

most of gembrook is closed now! Due to a couple of locals - one who is on local council - we stood - 0 chance.

And unless you remove all bushes and discs etc you wont clean out the effects of spending time driving thru bog's.. been there done that, grew up.

I'm with Truckster - I ride a dirt bike too - the more evidence we leave the sooner the tracks get closed. Bogs are fun but you have to do an awful lot of cleaning up afterwards, and look after all your seals religously.

Sorry hound that wasn't meant to sound personal. Back to the original topic Cooper STTs are ok if you get a good deal, I run 305/70R16 on 8 inch rims. I don't like how the tread blocks crack all over the place on rocks but haven't had any flats or any major tread damage. Will try MTRs myself next time though.

Thanks Truckster. That is sad. I did my military 4WD test on those tracks and walked down most of them with trainees.

Cheers

How do you suppose you drive around a track with a bog/mud accross the road, drive around it ok drive around it into the bush and make my own track like it most do. Which do you think makes more of an impact to the roads!

As for a 4wd that brakes every time you drive through s puddle, wouldn't be much of a 4wd than.

I have mongrels on all winter around the farm, they are unstoppable (so far) and easier on the wallet. in mud every day, when it rains that is.........
I will take them bush some time next winter, I'm sure they will be capable, very noisy on road but I like that........

MTR's. IMO great allround tyre, especially for places like the high country where bog holes/ muddy rutted tracks are not the norm.

BTW, if you are just looking for bog holes etc, go to the likes of Toolangi etc & do your bit to help get more tracks closed, but MTR's would not be the 1st choice if bog holes/muddy ruts etc is your preferred 4wding activity.

Totally agree with Truckster & some others, mud does suck & justs costs money. Thankfully, most who do visit the high country have a slightly different ideology as to what is a fantastic 4wding adventure without having to chew the ' bleep e' out of tracks.
