In my search for a shade cloth ground sheet for a tent I came across the ultimate mesh by discount camping. They say heavy duty 90 percent UV, in fact its desribed as the ultimate shade cloth. Its edged with eyelets available in several sizes so I was wondering has anyone seen this or used it, I mean is it like shade cloth as the price seems very reasonable so anyone had first hand experience

If it about the same price as shade cloth then sounds OK. Not too sure that 90% UV rating is much of a selling point if you are using it as a ground sheet though.

12x 20 foot costs $79 edged with eyelets. 90 percent UV, I assume it is thick though price seems cheap for decent shade cloth

Hi kwk56pt (how do you pronounce that name)

for ground sheet you have to consider its strength as in resistance to sticks poking thru into tent, but also its ability to shed water down into ground , otherwise it pools and you might as well use a cheap tarp.

I prefer 50% heavy duty stuff (Nylex) over the 70% stuff we used to use.

Have a look at a picture of a proper mesh floor here.

Shade cloth is too fine, gets damaged easily, especially on rocky ground. Too much dirt & moisture sits on top rather than goes through.

I've trued both. The dearer one is worth the money.

Gday
Wes and I use 1.5 or 3mm rubber sheeting as it is readily available to us..Sheeting is quite warm underneath as it stops the cold coming up into the sleeping bag.
If you shop around, and I mean shop around, rubber sheet is available at about $20.00 lm.....

Hi bought one about 2 years ago ultramesh by OZtrail 12/12 foot.
It has eyelets edged and appears to be a bit more tightly woven than ordinary shade cloth?
far better than the old blue poly tarps i use to use.
Have used it many times in a lot of different conditions.
Very soft feel on your feet and they let the water and sand filter through.
I will get a few more to use as a shade cover ,privacy screen for when the camping spots get a little to close.
I only ever made one mistake
and that's when I thought I was wrong!
