I know this is not exactly 4x4, but could have been. Go to item number on eBay
280084751352, scroll down to the item description and have a read.
Would make you think twice about buying off that site especially private deals.
Is there anyway if you purchased a boat there could you have it checked for legal
ownership before paying for it ? I recall on this site a few days ago about a site called REVS you can
check out vehicles before purchasing.
What an unfortunate position for any purchaser to finish up in.

I have heard that there's no link between the states when it comes to boat rego so people duck down to NSW, flog a boat and bring it to QLD and sell it. Then they nick a boat in QLD, take it into NSW and sell it there etc etc.
Not real flash if it's even remotely true I reckon!
Cheers
Scoey!

It's amazing how many people think that they're clever because they've got a "bargain" on Ebay.
I always recommend that they ask around about the vendor, phone and have a yarn and see how they feel before committing. Better still, pay a few more dollars to deal with a reputable person.
The bad guys are out there, anywhere they can make a fast buck.

This can happen anywhere not just ebay, same thing could happen from an ad in the local paper. Just so happens Ebay is very popular and the best way to sell things. Buyer beware, do your homework before you hand over the hard earned dollars.

The difference is that if its not Ebay you can usually inspect the goods before buying. Doesnt guarentee that they're not sus, but at least you can see what you're paying for. Its also easier to ask a heap of questions and sus the seller out a bit. Much harder to do on Ebay.

You can inspect stuff on Ebay as
well, I know a few people who have sold cars and bought on ebay. It was just the same if they put an add in the paper, people came and looked at it then went away and put a bid on it. You'd be crazy to hand over 10+ thousand for a car or boat or whatever without looking at it. And of course it would be COD, again you'd be crazy to transfer money into soemones bank account without the goods.

Happened earlier this week. Put a bid on a hand winch, got an email a few days later after being outbid that the item was available as the buyer couldn't pay for item. Would I still be interested. Replied they said OK will let Ebay know as per ebay policy and they would send out an invoice.
Got an official looking invoice from ebay. Needless to say I was suss the whole time and insisted it would be COD and I would pick it up.
The invoice arrived for the agreed amount (but in US dollars!)
Long and short of it I reported it to Ebay. Looking in to it the person sending the email was not the person offering it for sale and the bids that had been placed looked bogus. Main concern is Ebay keep (after 6 emails to their "security" section now) insisting they do not give out emails and that the only time the email is exchanged is between bidder and seller. So they still can not tell me how they got my email address from bidding on an item.
It is easy to see how people get caught out. The old saying BUYER BEWARE!

I used to get a lot of second chance offers and unsolicited offers because they had seen me bidding on a particular thing. All were bogus of course. Ebay is a bit better these days, but the sods are still out there.
