hi
i am looking and weighing up at a few off road caravan options (Bushtracker- 16 or 18 ft ,
Kimberley Karavan - say 16 ft , Supreme Galaxy Off Road -16.6 ft ) and wonder if anyone would care to share their experiences (both good or bad) re the Supreme Galaxy
Off Road Caravans - could someone who has owned one comment if it really is
Cape York capable and
Gibb River Road capable without falling apart (the miranti framing really worries me ) - because that really is the ultimate
test in my opinion having been across those delighful but slightly corrugated tracks - although i do think that the batllecamp road is still the worst one ever- its not often you choose to drive in the table drains to avoid the road.
my thanks and see you greg

Greg GU, I have never heard of a Supreme model called Galaxy - which one is it?
I have spoken to a number of people with Supremes. Most we have seen have the disclaimer in the boot similar to the Coromal one as per post 39965; when i was researching
off road caravans, it was also on their website. I have met 2 people with the tiny Supreme with door at rear (can't remember it's name) and both were happy with it for outback travel. My husband wouldn't fit inside it.
We decided Bushtracker and possibly Kedron were the only real off roaders, hence our purchase of the pre-loved much travelled Bushtracker. Strong but heavy. As far as i know no BTs have fallen apart on the
Gibb River Road,
Cape York Peninsular trip etc.
Check out recent posts 35744, 39965 and 42289.
Hope this helps.

But on the caravaners
forum, anything less than complimentary naming brand names gets bombed out for fear of being sued, so can't get the whole picture.
Still worth a look Greg if you haven't already.

Have to agree with motherhen. The Caravanners
forum is pretty limited in what you are allowed to post. If the comment isn't favourable, or is deemed by the moderators to possibly irritate manufacturers, it will be deleted. They're doesn't seem to be the same fear factor on this
forum.

You know,
There is another little msn caravan
forum, growing in posts every week, that has no issue with posts naming names. Certainly isn't an "anything goes" setup, but...if you have photos/proof, go ahead and post. In fact the sites manager actually made a post a while back stating just this. It's probably a more technically oriented group though that's far from the only thing discussed. You might notice afew familiar names, as it's also
home to afew refugees booted from other forums :-))) BTW not me!!

Hi Matt
I have visited the
forum on occasions, seen many familiar names and a 'refugee' or two. As much of it seemed the same people on similar topics, i have chosen not to join - it takes me all my time keeping up with three forums!
I don't have a problem with naming names if it is first hand knowledge and true, and if i get really god service, will say so far and wide - likewise if someone does me down. It is after all protecting others. I won't name brands on second hand information. I can't see any legal action succeeding in these circumstances. Good on David for allowing us to ramble on.
Regards
Motherhen

Hi Greg,
I have a 16ft Supreme Getaway, and they will cop most what you can throw at them. They are BIG and HEAVY as far as off road work goes but if you can live with the long rear overhang then it will serve you
well. Ideally the smaller Getaway would be better for true offroad work but if 16ft is your choice then it will still go OK.
Regards, Trevor.

Trevor, does yours have a disclaimer about rough roads like they used to have on their website? It was in the boot with one we saw. I discounted them when i read in the brochure on their website a few years back - only suitable for occasional trips off bitumen - as yet another "not-off-road" labeled off road.
One couple we met went to a camping show a few years ago and bought a little A shaped A-van then went outback. They came back with the tiny Supreme, and all they would say when asked what happened to the A-van was "horses for courses". We still don't know where they buried the A-van, and they still have the little Supreme.

MH,
No disclaimer in the front boot to say "occasional offroad use only". I am the only owner as
well so it hasn't been taken off by another owner.
1 look at this thing and you realise they are the real deal. My better half is the only thing that stops the van from going anywhere LOL!!!
Smaller would be better for true offroad though.
Regards, Trevor.

Thanks Trevor. The people we met last year with the tiny one were very happy with their's, one reason because it was no wider than the tow vehicle for bush work. It is the that model has the bed across the front, but they were not tall people - my husband would not fit. They thought it was the only Supreme sold as true off road. Same model as the 'horses for courses' people have. It is tiny.
