G/Day All, running differant profile tyres has made my speedo out ,100kys on speedo=105 true speed, how wil this effect my speedo trip reading, will 1000kys on trip meter=1050kys actually travelled, trying to work out fuel consumption,& naturally the 1050 gives me better braging rights, is it this simple,Friar.

Friar,
yes, you are right.
this is the case whern you tyre circumference increases.
To calculate the difference - measure the circumference of both new and old tyres (when fitted to rims)
.
Divide the new (eg 193cm) by the old (eg 184cm) and the result eg 1.05 = 105% of the old speedo/odo reading - 5% increase
Cheers
Discliamer : i made all this up ( do your own research before following my advice)

Similar problem with my speedo and odometer both being out. I use the GPS instead. I suggest that if you want to work out your fuel consumption etc accurately get a GPS

Hi Friar
You don't say what sort of car !
The speedo and the tripmeter generally have different error rates deliberately.
Normally, like on patrols, the speedo reads high (reads 100kph when doing 95)
but the odometer stills reads accurately.
Can get cheap electronic kits to change ratio back when
fitting bigger tyres. I have done this , but in practise
find it easier to use a gps as per Tjilpi for fuel consumption figures as
its more accurate and doesn't require changes.
