What happened at OKA . Last I heard they had stopped production and their assets liquidated.
However I picked up Overlander's march 07 editiion and there is an article that says they have a new model and orders well well into 2008.
Their website seems to have been updated as well and lists 40 or so improvements to their new NT model

The locally made truck always seem to have as many supporters as detractors.
ive never driven one but would like to. I know they had a few problems but with new engine and 20 years in the business I expect many of the flaws would be ironed out.

They were bought out by Malaysians few years ago i heard. I new the sales manager awhile ago and noticed his Black Oka is still on the web page. They apparently built 6 as samples for the US market, and fitted them with 350 Chev V8's and raised exhaust pipes at the rear. Only five got sent as samples and the on that remained here became his "Company Car".

I drove around eastern and southern WA in an OKA the early 90's. They could have been a good wagon except for a few ridiculous equipment decisions. That woefully inadequate powerplant was what sent them broke IMHO. Using tacky surplus switchgear from those pussbox Leyland Boxer truck's gave you a bad feel from the moment you hopped in it too.

Some decent grunt, an auto and a forward control, multi purpose work ute could be a big seller in the mining industry.

There were 6 ex defence force OKA's sold under the hammer in Melbourne recently.

Single cab, dual cab and bus from memory.

Low kms, well maintained and between about $34,000 & $50,000.

A mate of mine went to the auction with another who was looking for one. Bought it for about $36,000 and only needed 2 minor defects addressed for road worthy. Otherwise they were exceptionally well maintained and low kms.

They are a great concept for a market that is not well served except by expensive Mitsi Canters etc. They can be a bit of a liability though.

Cheers
Andrew.
