With that sort of weight, you might need to check with authoriries in your State to ascertain legislative requirements regarding brakes, controller/control method etc. Probably the best place to start if you want to get it right.

If you need an elec brake controller you cannot get better than a Tekonsha Prodigy. A little exy but the best IMHO.

exy? They're only like $150! If's that's a lot to pay for something that could save your life then i think it's cheap.

thanks for the replies some one will be picking it up and they will not have a brake control unit, i am guessing that the trailer brakes will only work off the seven pin plug with the extra wires hooked up other than just the brake, tail lights and the right/left indicators?
are the tekonsha prodigy units complicated to fit?

the max you could tow behind your nissan wagon would be 3500kgs you'll also need brakeaway brakes on your trailer.

Am I correct in thinking that what you have purchased is basically a Two Axle Dog Trailer?
If so are both axles braked, again if so, you will need to be extremely careful with the setting up of the individual sets of brakes.
As far as I know (and I am NOT an expert) the Prodigy is designed to operate Sets of axles whereas you are connecting it to two seperate axles!
If I have got this wrong then I apologise, it is getting late- if I am right then Thank me...

yes your assumptions are correct, but how is setting up a tandem trailer with 2 braked axels different to setting up a dog trailer with a braked axel at each end of the trailer instead?
