We will be travelling from
Perth WA to
Birdsville later this year. Intinerary is sort of following ......................
To
Norseman /
Eucla /
CedunaGoogs Track / Railway line to
Transline to
Sturt Highway (bit of bitumen) to
Borefield Road to
Birdsville track to (where else but)
RETURN TO WA
Via the QAA line /
Poeppel Corner / French Line „³
PAR ¡V via Mt Barry to ???
From here along the Tallaringa Track / Ann Beadell Hwy to
Laverton
I know we need permits for Anne Beadell Hwy and a Desert Parks Pass, but do we need permits for any other section, and if so where would we get them from please? Any other comments on our route (or bits we may be missing but shouldn't) also greatfully recieved.

No. But you might need a camping permit for Googs.
Check at
Ceduna. Not sure about your Mt Barry route(it lies between Coober and Oodna)
BTW it is Stuart Hwy not Sturt. The latter heads east out from
Adelaide to
Mildura

The
Rig Road is a doddle. In other words, an easy run. There are several washouts however, on some of the dunes, to look out for.
The photo below was taken in May 2006 when traversing the last dune of the
Rig Road a hundred metres or so from the K1 Line. It was the only bog after traversing 200km of off-track stuff to the Geo Centre of the Simpson.
I would say that the approach from the east would be easier. There are a couple of chicken tracks around the main one if it proves too difficult. I was presented with a 5 metre blow across the crest of the dune and decided to take another approach angle and sank to thje chassis rails. There had been some severe blows in 2006 and the desert sands were quite soft in
places. Later in the year the sand settles, making desert journeys a tad easier.
Cheers
