Hi all,
I am contemplating a new trip to Oz this summer (probably July 15th to August 15th).
This time, I think of starting from
Adelaide (I don't know the place), having some days in the Flinders, then Anne Beadell, Gunbarrel, then if enough time some days in the Center and back to
Adelaide.
I would like very much to find some mates to tag along for parts of the trip. Might someone tell me the best way to look for travel mates??
Cheers - Eric

It depends on what you want really ... there are many people in backpackers accommodation advertising their trips and inviting people to come and share the fuel and the fun.
That said, you are talking about some of the most remote country in Australia, and where most locals have never been. You are talking about loooooong distances, awful roads in part, and a lot of planning.
Your backpacker buddies if they do their homework may be scared off, or if they are naive, could be a liability.
On the otherhand, other folks will be looking for people with a common interest - are you have not really given much indication of your interests, experience, vehicle, company etc.
You might happen upon someone here heading out that way then, but you might not too ;-)
Cheers
Andrew who will be heading as far as the
SA/WA border around that general time.

Andrew's reply was much to the point. Need more info.
Also can't see you doing the distances to the
places nominated in a month.

Hi Eric
Adelaide is a nice big country town by o'seas standards.
You would need to fly in and grab a vehicle and head for the Flinders for a quick look around, say maybe 5 days. Then 1 day to get to Cooper Pedy. 6 days should see you across the Anne Beadell and then another 1 day to get to
Wiluna from
Laverton. From there another 6 days to
Alice Springs and spending some time at Ayers
Rock. Then you would have 12 days left to hang around Central Australia and drive the 1500km back to
Adelaide.
This will be a pretty full on trek and by the end of it you would wish you had never heard of corrugations (I know, you have been here before...lol)
If you are hiring a Bushcamper Toyota 4x4 then make sure you have all the right gear in case of punctures as
well as an extra spare wheel and an air compressor. Hiring a Sat Phone would also be a good thing. Carry at least 100lts water.
When you have worked your itinerary out then let the
Forum know and maybe you will find someone who will be out there at the same time, to tag along with.
Cheers

Eric, pity yopu won't get into
Adelaide just over a week earlier to get to the National at
Warraweena. I have no doubt that some of the people that had been there would be around. Site Link Perhaps you could make some allowances and adjust your timings?

You might also think about joining a tour out that way ... there at least two of us doing it from time to time that I know of. Some as tagalongs.
I know Mick Hutton has a tour scheduled for around that time - slightly different route, and probably not fitting your dates perfectly.
Cheers
Andrew.

Hi Eric, you could go as a visitor with a 4 wheel drive club,
check the websites of all the 4wd clubs in SA, Vic and maybe NSW you never know what you might find.
