Queensland Greens environment spokeswoman Larissa Waters said the Government should introduce an environment levy on big vehicles.
" Only ignorant people drive 4WD's," she said.

Possibly we could send her our thoughts on this subject.

We should be careful not to assist her in her assertion.

Seems ridiculous that they are prepared to make such blatantly ignorant remarks to an electorate that has so many 4x4 drivers.

Only ignorant people drive 4WD's

I wonder how many of the people in country Australia like being labeled ignorant. Would not have thought the spokesperson of any party would have made such an IGNORANT statement...

It appears she is the one who is ignorant. The meaining of the word is "Lack of knowledge".

She apparently knows very little about 4WD owners. She is also guilty of stereotyping. I wonder is she knows what that word means.

"Only ignorant people drive 4WD's,"

Very much an uninformed comment Larissa, I would call that sort of uninformed comment “Ignorant” wouldn’t you?

When I go out into National Parks, State Forests etc to help the rangers with cleanups, fire trail repairs and weed eradication etc, along with many many other 4x4 owners, I NEVER see anyone from the “Green Movement” getting their hands dirty for the environment, and to have you make those uninformed (Ignorant) comments is insulting.

Stop making silly uninformed (Ignorant) statements and do something constructive.

Colin Pryor, 4x4 owner & now ignorant person, thank you.

Do yourself a favour, get up off your chair in your air conditioned (read; greenhouse gas) office and see what 4x4 clubs ARE DOING, and have been doing, for the environment.

Her Reply, today 25/2/2007:

Dear Colin,

You are right to take offence at yesterday’s Sunday Mail article. However, your anger should be directed to the paper for deliberately mis-quoting me, and putting words in my mouth. The Queensland Greens have not called for a “tax hike” on 4WDs, nor have I ever called any driver “ignorant”. This is the second time in two weeks that a News Limited paper has deliberately misled the public about the Queensland Greens’ policies.

The text below is what I have sent to the Editor in response to the article:

I did not call four wheel drivers "ignorant", nor have the Queensland Greens called for a "tax hike on 4WDs" as reported in the Sunday Mail on page 25, 25th February 2007. I said that people may not always think about the environmental impacts of their everyday lives, but that all of our choices do make a difference. The Queensland Greens policy is to give incentives to people who opt to drive smaller, alternative fuel or hybrid cars, as well as to encourage people to use public transport where possible. We ask all drivers, in both big and small cars, to do their bit for the climate by thinking about whether there are other transport options open to them for each trip they take.

I hope this clarifies the position of the Queensland Greens for you. All of our policies are on our website www.qld.greens.org.au/policies, and if you have any further queries about them please do not hesitate to contact Ian Gittus on coordinator@qld.greens.org.au.

That's correct Time. It seems like News Ltd where all of this anger should be directed at. Not the Greens.

Seems like many on this site are quick to defend their 4wds and anybody who attacks them. Well News Ltd has attacked 4wds by misleading what this Woman has said.

Now let's get stuck into News Ltd.
