Am looking to replace my excisting Prado 3.4l with new Prado
Which would pull 2000kg caravan up hills better. PETROL OR DIESIL?
The existing Prado pulls alright on the flat but dies on the hills.

I'd be looking at the new diesel. I would also try the diesel Pajero as a comparison.

Diesel. We changed from petrol to diesel Prado and the diesel feels so much more "lazy". No huffing and puffing, lower revving motor. Much more relaxed. The actual performance (compared with 4.0 Prado) is much of a muchness. I do not have tear-arse driver style, cruise at around 90kph towing. The diesel fuel consumption under load (towing, real 4WDriving) is much lower than petrol. Note that the Prado has about double the standard fuel carrying capacity of the Pajero, Prado = 180 litres. Can do diversions from main route without having to worry about where to get the next lot of fuel, with the Prado. Pajero also a good choice & was No.2 on our list. They say the new Pajero diesel is a bit quieter than the old one. Our tandem pop-top van is all-up weight 1940kg or so. Done about 15,000 km with it & the diesel Prado in past 12 months (we have previous turbo diesel, not the D4D).
