Does anybody know of any good
camping spots around Golden Beach, Seaspray etc.
Also if you have been recently were the mosquitos bad?

Shaker,
There are a few good but basic campsites along the Golden Beach-Seaspray Road. Head into Golden Beach and turn right - The better ones are only a few k's down on the left (beach side).
I haven't been to these for a coupld of years but mates that were in
Loch Sport and Seaspray over Xmas/New Years reckon the mozzies weren't too bad this year - probably the lack of rain. We've had a bit of rain in the recent week or so - It doesn't take much to renew the vigour of the mozzies or sand flies.

Just as a matter of interest, does anyone know how long 90 mile beach really is? And for that matter, how long is 80 Mile beach in WA? Are the names accurate?
I ask this as one who once asked the price of something on a market stall only to have the
shop assistant mutely point up to the huge
sign I hadn't noticed proclaiming "$2 stall". So I am prepared to look dumb with this question!

You could measure it yourself on Google Earth. You might even spy some good campsites!

Yes - that was my first thought , but it is barred at work and needs to be reinstalled at home so I was going for the soft option - hope that someone else would measure it in Google Earth for me! Ah
well, I'll add it to the list of jobs, but near the bottom, I'm interested but not THAT interested.
I bet the Vics exaggerate, surely you can't travel for 90
Miles in Victoria without falling out of the state. The sandgropers however are reknowned for their honesty - there are sharks in
Shark Bay, and plenty of sand in The
Great Sandy Desert.

No, greydemon. Ninety Mile Beach is appropriately named. It is actually ninety
miles..... from somewhere.

Or it was until someone cut a channel through it at
Lakes Entrance.

G'day,
Just came back from an overnighter at Cape Conran,
Well worth the visit. Good beaches, good
camping although a fpopular area it was reasonably quiet. Did some beach fishing and a swim, first time I have been their and I look forward to going back. 4hrs 20 minutes from Frankston area. Turn off at
Marlo.

As Beemer said, Cape Conran is good, but if you can go further east, the best spot we found was Thurra River which is just 2kms east of
Point Hicks. Fantastic
bush camping spots right behind the
sand dunes, but it does have a mosquito problem in the evenings.

Spoon Bay and
Red Bluff in Gippsland Lakes Coastal
Park are good spots. Several good sites in the Lakes NP past
Loch Sport. Go to Parks Vic web site - www.parkweb.vic.gov.au - and download the
park notes for these parks.
