I'd think you'd be asking for trouble ... underneath the vehicle is rather more complex than under a camper trailer.

Every under vehicle water tank that I have ever seen has been custom built for the task - specific to the location and mounting available.

Remember each litre of water is 1 kg and you don't want the whole thing moving a smidgin.

Not sure what type of tank you have, but my GQ has a stainless steel tank permanently mounted under the floor on the drivers side. It sits infront of the rear diff and holds 90ltrs of drinking water. I have done some heavy offraod too and i have never once dragged the tank over anything .
My point is..... it can be done and it really comes down to how you drive and where you go. I also bring spare 20 ltrs tanks for showers and such. its as safe as the rest of your underbelly, then again, you have as much chance of blowing a diff up as you would piercing the tank..luck plays a big part with anything offraod.

I am with Andrew - if its plastic forget it. If its stainless or aluminium make sure that it is very firmly fastened and clears the suspension tail shaft and exhaust at all angles of wheels.

I have a wedge shaped stainless tank in the shed, it fits between cargo barrier and the middle seats - uses that bit of space.

Paid $700ish for it, will sell for reasonable price. No damage...

Its forsale if your keen, I'm in Melbourne.
