evening all and to all a good evening, I been back and looked at post 22523 on the 30/4 and Keith_A (QLD) says to put computer fans on inside and out side. as I have read a number of times, ok question "does anyone have any pics that I can look at to follow." PLEASE. it is a electrux by the way. the freezer gets down to minus 5-6 but the fridge only about 10-11 in the day time, better at night like 2 degrees. thanks for any help.
Pete

Hi Kampen.
I have posted quite a number of posts re -temps I have recorded using the rc1180 chest type blue chescold . In 40 degree temp it maintained minus 15 in the freezer which I think is very good.
I also fitted a small fan just under the condenser (looks like a whole heap of fins ) near the top of the fridge. I also did this with my fridge only 3 way model b533 I think . In the positive line to the fan I also fitted a diode to stop current flowing into the fridge if I wanted to connect a battery to just run the fan.
As the blue rc1180 performs so
well I haven't been able to detect an appreciable difference that the fan has made. However with the fridge model certainly did and turned it into more like a freezer. I bought the rc1180 as I wanted to have some ice-cream camping . I would assume that with the rc1180 the fan must help also but it is so good you probably don't need to worry about it.
Wish I had taken a few photos of the unit when I had the cover off . It is a bit of an exercise to undo it all again. Even for a non handy person like me putting a small fan in was a sinch .
hope someone can help you out with a photo.
cheers

been on the road for 12 years full time and the most common complaint people have is the fridge struggle i had an autofridge for 6 yrs good thing but then bought a new engle 60 with separate fridge freezer and the most awesome fridge i have seen or used in 40 ambient temp the freezer would hold -20 all day i feel that the cost outweighs the muckin around trying to make something work and you know the most fridges i have seen that blow up are 3 way the 60 engle is the most efficient and coldest thing around also keep your fridge full if no food use water bottles more efficient

thats good baz as long as you have the batteries and power to run the fridge. Can't comment regards caravan 3 ways or the older style 3 ways .
The modern rc1180 is a ripper fridge freezer and you know what a 3kg gas bottle will last me a week. Guess it all depends on the style of camping you do. One night stays get an engel 3 or 4 nights per
camp site then a 3 way for me is the go. I would only buy chescold f400 or the rc1180 . dont buy the b533 it's only the fridge model and not enough grunt for aussie weather. I had to add some insualtion to my b533 and a fan then it was a great fridge. At the time as a student was all I could afford.
cheers

Kampen,
I am hoping to finish the install upgrade on my 3-way caravan fridge this weekend and will post some pics if I can figure out how. Its a Dometic though but I am sure the principles are the same.
Cheers

When re-installing your fridge make sure there is no air space around the sides or top. You don't want the hot air from the boiler circulating around the cabinet to reheat it do you. For a good guide to installing fridges see www.rvmobile.com/Tech/Trouble/vent.htm
