I have a 100 series GXL with a cargo barrier fitted.
Twice the load in the back has shifted and jammed the lock button on the top section of rear door, which means you cannot open the door until you remove the cargo. Both times i have been lucky to get it open without too much damage.
I heard there is a fix available by removing the 'rod' that actuates the locking lever.

Has anyone done this, or does anyone have any other ideas?

Cheers

Dave

Hi aeiou

I would be concerned about safety issues. Rather make a perspex cover wit a finger hole to unlock if needed.

Regards

Derek.

Hi Dave, if yoy landcruiser is NOT with barn doors ... just use the key (not hne remote control) ... it will open the door for you ....
I have the same problem with my GXL model!
Good luck!

only problem is if the stuff is resting against the lock - immediately gets locked again.

Why not secure the cargo in the back so it doesn't move around? Everytime I pack the rear of my Prado (which I had the same problem once and had to undo the cargo barrier and crawl in to the back unlock) I tie or secure all loose items so it won't happen again...and it hasn't.

Also, for worst case scenario, I have a couple of appropriate spanners permanently cable-tied to the cargo barrier so that I can remove (or partially remove) the barrier from the front if neccessary. With mine, it is possible to get the spanner through to undo the bolts after folding the middle seat forward. This could be a useful backup if the back door is jammed for whatever reason, especially if your tool box is behind the cargo barrier.

Also makes you think about where you stow your fire extinguisher etc.

Hi aeiou.
Had the same problem about a year ago,had to gain access by removing barrier. Most frustrating!!!
My remedy was to make a wooden box, roughly square approx 1ftx1ft by 2 inch deep. This allows it to be placed on the base of the boot so it covers the lock and if anything presses against the box it doesn't interfere with the lock as the lock remains on the inside of the box.
Have just had a thought,I have cargo drawers fitted,so you might have to have different measurements.
Hope it helps.
Cheers Eric

Pains me to say it but this is not just a Toyo problem. I had the same thing happen on my Patrol. The load moved backwards and became pressed against the lock mechanism so that when I used the remote to open it it immediately locked again.

I was lucky enough to use a hook to get through the cargo barrier from the passenger compartment to pull the load back from the door.

When ever I am fully loaded now I tape a piece of wood on the back door next to the lock to create a space for the locking bar to flip out (ie stops the load shifting back so far that it pushes the locking bar in)

Hmmmm - accelerate hard - brake hard - load moves forward - use remote or key

I had this happen to me but I managed to move the thing through the side vent window and could open it.
I fixed it by taking off the handle that is on the rear door where the lock mechanism is. This left a vacant screw just under where the knob is that locks the door. I then got some galvanised tin and made up a little guard that screwed into that spot to protect the knob. Maybe a picture is worth a thousand words.

I removed the rod to the back of the lever 2 years ago, and have never had any problems. Door locks with central locking, and nothing jamming against the lock makes any difference. You have to be trying hard to lock yourself in the back (Not much room in the back with draws etc), but the cargo barrier came with a thing to break the window if you you did manage it.
