Dear All

My standard 100 series (105 series?) is due for a 200000km birthday.(I think it's pretty much the same running gear as 78 series.)

Does anyone have any extra advice before I make a start on the following jobs? I've not done any of these on this vehicle before - but all look straight-forward in the guts book.

re-pack wheel-bearings
flush and replace brake fluid,
flush and replace coolant,
oil change - manual transmission, transfer case, front and rear axles,

Thanks and regards

Wheel bearings are pretty straight forwards... but it is well worth the effort if you have the hub that far apart to check out for oil leaks etc from the swivel hubs and inner axle seals...

Make sure use a 54mm tube socket for the bearing nut. I've seen too many butch jobs where people use a hammer and dolly.

And I would also look at putting in a swivel hub gasket set too. For 80bucks and this would include the turning bearings.

Good time to check the C.V's and replace if they are worn as well. Keep the best one for a spare.

check cam shims, might save you heaps of foldy stuff. While there doing wheel bearings, id pull the c/v's out and repack them.

This LCOOL link may help with the bearings.

Brake fluid - use only the Toyota Dot 3 brake fluid.
Coolant - I only use the Toyota red coolant - saves any issues from mixing coolants.
I use 75/85 oil for gearbox and transfer
and LS90 for both front and rear diffs.
