In my venture to find my next 4 x 4, I notice that some of the Cruisers with IFS getting around the place seem to ride more level than others. I'm aware of the change to IFS 2002/2003 sometime so I've been specifically checking out the IFS models because the 2003 onward range is what I'm after.

So why do some appear to ride more level than others. Some seem to be really High in the back/low in the front end and others not...!

Thanks in advance.

Have a look at 'My Rig' fully loaded and its fairly level. There is also a photo in my gallery with it unloaded where the HD springs make the back sit high.

You will also find that some still have their original suspension but have the front TORSION BARS "wound up" to raise the ride height to level with the standard rear height, ask your local Toyota dealer about it. I've got a mate who had his done at the dealer and was told it wouldn't affect his warranty.

I had this done before the suspension lift.

Andrew,

Prior to fitting aftermarket suspension my Cruiser rode 'dead-level'. It was the extra weight in the back consisting of cargo barrier/drawers/recovery kit and rear bar with spare that lowered the rear enough to have it ride level. Looked better IMHO but not so flash off-road.

Suspension is now done and I'm back to the 'nose down' - but at least higher up!

Andrew
04 td came off factory floor with a 50mm difference front to rear.
ie measurement from bottom of front guard to centre of front wheel hub was 500mm.
on rear measurement from bottom of guard to centre wheel hub was 550mm.
IN MY OPINION keep as close to this offset as possible.
i have used airbags in back(when heavily loaded) to try and maintain this.
ask lots of questions andd get others opinions before you play to much with heights as this is one vehicle where it is easy to significantly alter the handling characteristics for the worse.
typically most cruisers sag in the back.
something to think about anyway
cheers
