Three years ago I purchased the Waeco CF50 after my Engel of 20 years died.
I had heard some good things about after sales service and the price was considerably less than for a new Engel.
About 6 months ago I noticed that the unit was running longer than it used to to get the interior cold, and as a consequence was using more power. As I use solar, power consumption is important.
I took the unit back to Waeco and was told by a very surly service person that there was nothing wrong with it. I insisted it be checked and a week later was told it was fixed as a new thermostat had been fitted and the fridge was tested OK.
On taking it
home I found that the problem was the same and I was using twice the power as when the unit was new.
I decided to enlist the help of the retailer who I had brought the fridge off three years before. Unfortunately the
shop front in Labrador
Gold Coast was closed but I found the Owner was now operating the business from a web site under the same name Fridge and Solar.
Sometimes you get lucky and Val, the owner of Fridge and Solar was absolutely a wonderful help.
Although Fridge and Solar were not obliged to do anything, as it was a Waeco responsibility, Val took the fridge over the weekend, and at no cost, ran it while monitoring its performance, graphing that performance and preparing a report for Waeco and arranged for me to meet with the regional manager who he had discussed the problem with. As a result of Fridge & Solar's intervention, Waeco replaced the faulty fridge with a new one.
I should say that except for the initial service person, I had no further trouble with Waeco and the Regional Service Manager was particularly pleasant and helpful. The real star of this story however, is Val from Fridge and Solar who I believe offered after sales service far beyond what anyone could normally expect.
Thought I should let others know about this as after sales service like this seems a rare occurrence these days.

Hi Michael,
Couldn't agree more, Val was extremely helpful when I needed a couple of AGM batteries at short notice delivered to
Canberra. Went out of his way arranging couriers and payment - highly recommend Fridge and Solar.
Cheers,
Jezza

This sort of stuff needs more highlighting ( instead of all the negatives )
It lets a lot of people know where to get some good service and at the same time it increases the business of the same people and that way they can continue to give good service..

"Waeco bought 3 yrs ago", 6 months ago faulty, so 2.5yrs and its developed a fault requiring replacement.
Time and time again I read of Waeco warranty issues being passed off.
Yes great service from someone else who helped without having a commitment to do so, but no service initially received from Waeco like it should have been.
And this replaced an Engel that had 20yrs faultless service. Need I say more.

A quick google revealed nearly 100 Engel service agents, which presumambly mean engels must have some issues that require repair. The impression I get from these threads is that no Engel has ever failed anywhere in the entire universe, and this thread will no doubt run for days.
BTW I own a fridge but it ts neither a Waeco or an Engel so I'm not biased one way or the other.

Its a bit of banter and fun though!!
Holden / Ford
Engel / Waeco
I thoroughly enjoy fridge debates, I've owned both brands, now have an engel, but am intrigued by gas for long stays and may add an rc1180 to my cooling line up of toys.
Some get too serious, its all good fun.
100 Engel service agents...... better choice of service if ever reqd...LOL

Sounds like Val really looked after you and you got a good result. Do you know what was the actual problem with the fridge and why they had to replace the whole thing and not just a part.

Hi Michael
Yes it would be good to know what part was faulty that the whole unit had to be replaced.
How is the new one performing, run time, current use etc.
Regards
Derek.

Hi Derek,
Thanks for your interest The problem was with the insulation which would have been difficult to repair so they replaced the fridge. A good result I think u would agree.
The new one is great run time is way down and my batteries have plenty of charge for the TV, fans, computer, etc. I estimate using about 20 amps over 24 hours with outside temp from 20 (night) to 30 (middle of day) and cooling to about 3 degrees..
Cheers ,
Michael

Glad you had a good result.
Any idea why the insulation deteriorated ? Does it stand in the sun and perhaps the UV damaged the PU foam ?
