Might be a stupid question, but have you double checked the 12 volt outlet?

Also, if you are pluging into a cigarette style plug, your Engel plug probably has a fuse in it (
mine has) in the connector that converts from Engel screw in plug to cig lighter style.
Check that there is a fuse in there and that it is not blown.

check your wiring as you can burn it out by using fridges in the acc sockets. The standard wire is only 2 or 3 amp you need at least 6 amp for the fridges

forgot to add cords can break internally. go buy a
test light for a couple of bucks and rip off the alligator clip then you can
test the plug where it plugs into the engal for power to the engal at 12v - thats where i would start first

I'm with Davoe here, I've had two mates with the latest series Engels who had the pos wire break within the plastic housing of the plug that goes into the back of the fridge. We were able to cut the plug apart for a temprary fix, but best solution is a new lead.

Check the polarity.
Make sure + and - are the right way around.

Beat me to it.....if you have correct polarity, and the volts are there, then your inverter is no good...all older than a few years engels run 240v compressers, and actually invert the 12v.

Had worrying experience in '97 just before
Derby on three month big trip with wife and two kids.. Thought engel had died and could see lots $$$ for new fridge for trip. Checked fuse ( glass tube type ) at battery ( fridge in back of patrol ) and looked ok. Worried went to autolec in
Derby who checked battery, charged $25 and replaced fuse which was buggered up inside metal end which was not obvious.
Good lesson replace fuse anyway to eliminate as problem. I did have spares! Doh!

Another Troll.
It is a
well known "fact" that Engels never fail.

Pete,
Congratulations, you have stumbled on our evil plot.
Recently the Waeco Owners With Engel Envy (WOWEE) group undertook to saturate this and other forums with trumped up Engel problems.
Seemd to be working for a bit, but back to the drawing board I guess.
Matt.

By your post your have checked 12V and all is OK up to the fridge. I don't know the Engels but can you easily remove a cover to get access to the insides?
Perhaps with all plugged in (12V ONLY of course) can you
check on the inside at the back of the pins? Also
check there isn't another fuse inside this area (perhaps someone already knows if there is or not) If there is 12V all the way to the inverter (and
check each side of the fuse as it my not be obviously blown or could just have a bad connection) then as posted before the inverter could
well be stuffed. Hopefully not as I imagine they wouldn't be cheap. If all checks out OK I'd be taking it to an Engel repair centre.
