It's not sealed, and I drove my '91 front wheel drive Corolla on it quite a few times in '05. Mind you I did the Mereenie a few times in that old girl too!
Would be more difficult for 2wds in the wet.

The 'Ernie' was not sealed in September 05 - being a short cut from the Stuart Hwy for those wanting to get into Kings etc, it gets a good flogging - a bonafide maintained road it is, but corrugated and stony - softer tyres and taking it quite easy seems the go.

if i remember correctly EGR has to be the roughest most corrugated road in name only in the NT we wanted to go to
the crater but only travelled about 1.5ks along and turned and drove on the side (
well on the side ) back to the highway there were signs at both ends saying no caravans or not recomened for caravans 4wd only
i have been along a few roughies but this had to rate as 1 of the worst
but they may have run a grader over it but you want to be quick behind the grader
