We are considering visiting
Bruny Island inTasmania. Is it worthwhile? How many days woudl we need? Has anyone experience with the boat ride to visit the seals, it costs $95 but seems good, judging by the advertising.

Went while in Tas over Christmas hols Andrew- we were only there overnight but nice
camping at Cloudy Bay at the end of a short beach run.
Adventure Bay is an interesting spot to visit. If you're there for a couple of days, you'll be able to visit '
the neck' and see the fairy penguins come in at night- we didn't have time, but climbed the
lookout there the next day and it's amazing how high up the
hill those little beggers climb to nest.
I would have liked to check out the north end of the Island also, but as said, didn't have the time.

Visited Tassie each summer the last three years. This year was the first time we managed to get to Bruny. Great place. Unfortunately we only had one day there.
Highly recommend the boat trip to the seals. Fantastic scenery.
But beware - the sea around that coast can be really rough.
We'll be back to Bruny next January for sure.

Andrew,
Absolutely worthwhile and the boat ride is the highlight. Don't forget the white wallabies near the caravan
park (
Adventure Bay Holiday Village) and
penguin viewing at
the Neck..
We spent 2 nights there and hardly touched the surface.
Gary.

Andrew, We live in Tassie and have stayed at Bruny Captain
Cook Caravan
Park Adventure Bay (across road from beautiful beach) for the last two years. We have two small children, there is plenty to do. Make sure you make an appointment with the lighthouse keeper for a visit and all the other spots mentioned previously mentioned. The Hothouse Cafe has great chips, ferry trip fast and smooth.
Hope you enjoy your stay in Tassie.
Philip

Did the boat tour a few years back and the best value for money we've ever spent. Not cheap, but what we learnt and still remember remains a highlight in our lives - go for it:)

Hi Guys we lived in
hobart for 3 years before returning to QLD HIGHLY recommend bruny as with
all places there are the tourist spots and the good spots!Good fishing on the west side in "surf" head south of island the drive to larbiardiare penninsula (Sorry forgotten spelling) good
camp spot(if no one else is there very likely!) 2minutes walk down to a beautiful white beach looking back at main land of Tas great 3 hour hike there(Watch for friendly snakes though!) get hiking book also there is a beach far far south can not remember name but just look on map and there is a
boat ramp and you can get onto beach to drive along take a piece of cardboard and "surf" down sanddunes VERY COOL! can be windy as you are looking at antartica! but thats the Tassie experience!

Live in Melb now but family originated in Bruny. Never lived there but it's one of my favourite
places in Aus.

One thing about Bruny that no-one has mentioned is that it covers all of Tassie environments in one island. In the north its dry east coast eucalypt forest that gradually changes via cool rainforest on the high ground until right down in south it is windswept rocky gorse and heath country like the Tassy west coast. The island is worth a few days spent there - its very beautiful!
