Just wondering what everyones thoughts are with Wireless Broadband up the top end of OZ.

Also, what experiences everyone has, with simply using the WiFi on the laptops and accessability at caravan parks and shops in NT & NQ.

Was thinking, instead of using the Telstra Wireless Broadband (which is fairly expensive) , maybe just using the normal broadband and connecting via the wireless connection

I got by using Telstra hotspots... If you have a telstra mobile it's easy, enter your mobile number on home page, receive SMS with token, enter token on home page and you're connected. Charges go to your mobile account. around $3.50 for 30 mins from memory.

They are available at McDonalds, starbucks, accor hotels and others (You can use it from the carparks)

We discussed the ins and outs of it last week in thread 42813 - it was pretty lenghty.
There seems to be plenty of places in other states, i cant see why NT would be any different.
If you think the Telstra is expensive, youll be able to make this work much cheaper.

As a fall back - all telecentres will be able to hook you up - either plug in or wireless for a small fee. There pretty much in every regional town.

My best advice is pratice before you leave home, find a connection somewhere - internet cafe, library etc. Give it a go.

cheers.
