Pretty sure it's been closed for a while.

Drove past this morning but can't remember if the 'closed' sign was still up. Suggest you ring the forestry office first to check.

2 hours - depends on which side of Brissie you live on! What do you call a crowd?
Amamoor can keep you going for months - there are heaps of tracks up there.
Bribie Island Ocean Beach NP campgrounds - need permit to drive on beach
Girraween NP (Stanthorpe area)
Bald Rock NP (Tenterfield area)
Sundown NP (Stanthorpe area)

Mt Mee is close and heaps of tracks. You'll need a permit from Forestry. I got mine in the city and picked up a heap of pamphlets and maps of other areas at the same time.

I read on a mountainbike forum just the other day that you don't need to obtain a forestry permit now for these areas.

A snippet from the thread:

Trying to get to the bottom of this latest change I also called the Ann St number and then QPWS Toowoomba (where permits were to be issued from).

I spoke to QPWS Toowoomba only two weeks ago and they were still issuing permits then, until signage was in place.

Well, word from Toowoomba is that permits for bicycles (horses and 4WD) are now not needed, even though signage may not be installed yet.

I guess people on high may have made this call. State parliament passed the changes to permits a couple of weeks ago and I guess they thought it was a done deal.

Could be worth a call to confirm :-)

I'm pretty keen on Landcruiser Mountain. You can usually find everything you listed there, and at Jimna, it's close enough to duck out on a Friday arvo for a weekend excape. Can be bloody hot in summer though and it's pretty dry of late (but isn't everywhere? hehe)

Cheers

We spent a very quiet weekend at Flanagan's Reserve near Rathdowney late last year. Here is the link to the website. We're looking forward to going back in Winter, build a huge campfire and relax. It is very large and you definately don't feel as though its crowded.

Unlike places such as Landcruiser Park, there are no motorcycles and strict speed limit.

Quiet
Peacefull,
reasonable rates last time i was there

Have been to Neurum Creek Bush Retreat a few times. Kids have loved the freedom to ride their bikes. Few walks to go on and a creek to swim when we have had some rain. Head out from Caboolture

Hot showers, but need to take drinking water.

Hi Carlin - these may be what you are after - some close, some a bit further :
You have already found one of the best - Charlie Morland Kenilworth.
1. Levuka - Mt Lindsay highway - over NSW border - Woodenbong - Urbenville. Website - www.levuka.com.au/ - too expensive for me.
2. Around Beaudesert they have some nice small parks: Click this link then click - download camp sites : " target="EOF" class="lbg">Site Link
2.1 Flanagan's Reserve - Beaudesert - Rathdowney - Mt barney - Flanagans.
Website : www.flanaganreserve.com.au/
2.2 Andrew Drynan Park - Beaudesert - Rathdowney - Lyons Road.
2.3 Sharp Park - Cunnungra
2.4 Darlington park - Beaudesert - Kerry - Logan river
2.5 Stinson Park -

3. Paradise Valley - very nice - Beaudesert - Lyons Rd - 8klms over NSW border.
4. Peach Trees - very good (in Jimna Forest). Caboolture - Kilcoy - Jimna.
5. Clarence River Wilderness - the best - www.clarenceriver.com/
6. Iron Pot Creek NSW - a must - Site Link
7. Sundown National park - must do.
8. Lemon Flat campgorund -Kwiambal NP - McIntyre/Severn River + caves (north of Ashford NSW).
9. Double Island Point (while we still can) - beach camping - Coroy - Tewantin - ferry over Noosa river - onto beach.
10. Goomburra - 4 campgrounds - try them all, but for young family Goomburra Valley has the best facilities and is safest. Warwick highway - Cunninghams Gap - Gladfield - Goomburra.
11. Koreelah National park - secluded. Ipswich - Boonah - Falls road - White swamp Rd.
12 Lake Murphy Conservation park. Miles - Taroom - Robinson Creek.
13 Expedition National park - a few hours on from Lake Murphy.
14. Lake Somerset - big area but can be a bit crowded. 2 campgrounds.
15. Wilga bush camp - Lake Broadwater Conservation Park - Dalby.

That should keep you out of mischief for a while.
Note - some you have to book on-line. Some are honesty regn at the site.
And yes - I have left out my favorites. Happy camping......Keith

Well what can I say to the 4x4 community of Brisbane, Thank you to all for your responses and we as a family can not wait to get back on the road after our hectic move! We did not expect to get any responses as we thought everyone would be shy in giving away their "spots" still hopefully we will be in the right direction now to find our own "spot!"
Cheers!
