G'day,

don't think has gone up here yet but be aware those who own one of these, you should be getting a letter soon. Retaining bolts stressing on front brake rotor under steep inclines or towing or the like (high G applications)

recall

I know I'd rather the tv to be on than my brakes fall off.

What can I say :-o

"The Land Cruiser and luxury Lexus LX470 are popular family cars often favoured by women, which has earned them the nickname of Mum's Taxi."

I guess if you want to go 4WDing you'll just have to buy a Patrol ;-)

Cheers,

Peter

Yeah P.G. - but if you want to get back - take Mums taxi - it might actually help you to rescue a couple of patrols on your trip too!

At least Yota do a recall to rectify some (note, "some", not all) mistakes, can anyone tell me how many recalls Nissan have done ? particularly concerning the 3lt ?

G'day Pezz,

yeah I had thought the same thing, maybe manufacturers only do this is if there is a safety issue? Motor blowing up...brakes and gears and steering should still be effective enough to pull up the vehicle? reckon if there WAS an injury caused by a 3L carking it, there would be a lawyer's picnic.

39 out of over 150 thousand ,, wow ?? must have been the one first off the production line every Friday the 13th over the last 9 years ,, SPOOKY , [ insert sarcasm] ,,,, wonder what the figures would show for "failure to proceed" 3lt Nissan patrols , recall for shortening dipstick /increasing sump ect ect per 150thou. LOL.

Hi guys.

Why would you want to recall vehicles dated back to 1997? where as those vehicles been on the road for last 9 and bit years??Some of those vehicle may have 500,000km already....do you think the bolts be loose on them?? I dont think so... I think that one mechanic who service those velicle just didnt do them up tight in the first place..
cheers..

Jason,

Most of these recalls are based on fairly rational economic principles. Toyota have probably decided that the reputation and legal costs of a failure in a 1997 model (even with a small chance of happening), probably outweigh the cost of recalling the cars and fixing them.

Most would remember the Ford Pinto in the US with its fuel tank which would be almost guaranteed to rupture after a rear end collision at greater than 25mph. Ford knew of the problem, but decided that the cost of recall would be greater than any legal costs associated with it and did not recall the vehicle immediately.

Unfortunately Ford's 'rational' calculations did not include the lives that might be lost as a result.

Better safe than sorry and in court, I suppose.

Matt.
